1) The AZ Beemers "Boar Hogs" now have their flights fully confirmed: They touch down on at Munich Airport at 8:20pm on Sunday night 8/5 - British Airways Flight #956 and they fly out on Wednesday 8/15 at 7:20am aboard British Airways Flight #947.

2) As soon as Los Canuckistanis post up their flight information I will bring it to this thread location, that also goes for El Kalifornicator SacramentoMike. You folks may be able to coordinate full taxi rides rather than taking the S-Bahn train to connect.

3) Uri Schumm and Don Stanley are on totally different flights from the rest of the Alps Extreme Group. If anyone wanted to tour Berlin with me, give me a shout out and I will post up my flight information. Express train on Sunday, 8/5; Berlin to Munich.

4) Yours Truly, Papa Chuy Viejo, will lead the Alps Extreme Group on a Munich Tour on Monday, 8/6; culminating with a Riders Dinner at Der Hofbrauhaus. We will not depart on this until 10:30am, so everyone can sleep off their jet lag and flight hangover.

5) We will set out early on Tuesday, 8/7 for The Holiest Shrine of Motorcycling: The BMW Motorrad Museum. Since a number of our AZ Beemers also own Bimmers, BMW Automobiles, we will also be touring the Munich BMW Car Assembly Plant also.

https://www.viator.com/tours/Munich/Augsburg-Day-Trip-from-Munich/d487-2666AUGS Since there is the very weird chance that the non BMW Owners (Sick-Silly-Sorry Bastards!) may not want to Worship at the Shrine of all that is Motorcycling Holy, I will arrange an alternate day for you Infidels. Here is one suggestion: A $46 day tour of Augsburg, the Ancient Roman Royal Post City. I lived in this gorgeous town for two years and I still believe it to be one of the nicest Burgs in all of Deutschland.

6) All of the Arizonans are now booked at the Hotel Europaeischer Hof Hotel for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights; 8/5, 8/6 and 8/7 respectively. If Los Canuckistanis y SacramentoMiguel wish another lodging that is fine, but please do consider making it within easy walking distance of Der Hof; our day trips will all start from Der Hof!

"The following is what was provided on the hotel Europaeischer Hof Hotel:

https://www.heh.de/default.aspx?lang=en

The prices for a twin room for the hotel below including tax and breakfast is 92 euros ($119.25)

The prices for a single room including tax and breakfast is 71.5 euros ($92.60)."

7) When you arrive at Das Hauptbahnhof from the Munich Airport, step out of the Bayerstrasse doors on the South Side of the Main Train Station, the Europaischer Hof Hotel is right in front of you. As long as Los Canuckistanis y SacramentoMike book a hotel within the following triangle, it is easy walking distance to Der Hof Hotel:

Alter Botanischer Garten to the North, Karlsplatz to the East and Ludwig-Svorstadt to the South. Hauptbahnhof is the central location!

ALPS EXTREME DATE CHANGE TO AUGUST 8-15, 2012!

https://www.edelweissbike.com/en/allTours/true/cont/eur/alps-extreme.html This thread, to be pinned by SkooterG, is for all interested participants in the FJR Forum Alps Extreme Motorcycle Tour during August 8-15, 2012. Any questions on this trip in particular or riding the Alps in general will see your answers posted here.

NOTE: If you wish to ask questions offline that is perfectly fine also, here is the contact information: Don Stanley, [email protected] and phone of 480-440-4666 or Uri Schumm, [email protected] and phone of 602-697-6949.

How to place your $500 deposit: Send a check for $500 to Tracy at Tri Community Travel, 910 Evergreen Road, Post Office Box 1974, Wrightwood, CA 92397-1974 USA. Tracy has a toll free number from the United States and Canada of 1-800-507-4459 and please feel free to call her. Tracy's direct e-mail is [email protected] and Tri Community Travel has a website of https://www.trict-edelweiss.com

IMPORTANT: You must mention you are a member of FJR Forum! If we book 10 participants, and I believe we will easily meet that 10 person minimum, Tracy is going to extend a 5% discount to FJR Forum Members. Tracy has a direct line of (760) 249-5825 and a FAX number of (760) 249-3857. Tracy has a Tour Booking Form you will need to fill out and she will fax it to you. ATTENTION: If you do not have a fax machine, just get your mailing address to Don Stanley, and I will mail you a Booking Form ASAP.

DEADLINES: We hope to have this Alps Extreme Tour to ourselves - FJR Forum, so Uri and I want to see two things: 1) Please give us a firm commitment that you are going by Thanksgiving, either by posting up here, calling us or e-mailing us. 2) We are firmly requesting that you get your $500 deposit in to Tracy of Edelweiss Bike Tours / Tri Community Travel by Christmas.

I mentioned you must be in Munich, Germany by Noon on Arrival Day, this is important because we must commute to the Village of Erding (30 kilometers Northeast of Munich) by 3pm on that Sunday to pick up our bikes and receive orientation!

However, I strongly recommend you plan on spending additional time in Europe either before, or after, or both before and after our 8 day Motorcycle Vacation. For example, I actually am flying into Berlin with My Girlfriend Donna. Donna and I'll sightsee Berlin; we'll then travel on to Munich on the High Speed ICE Express Train. Donna will fly home to Phoenix on the morning of Arrival Day and I will take the commuter train to Erding to meet up with you.

AIRFARE: Right now airfare is just under $1,500 roundtrip to Germany, I am going to use Priceline.com to attempt to get the best pricing possible; I will book our flights by Easter, no later than that. OUR MAP: I highly recommend that you purchase a copy of The Alps by https://www.freytagberndt.com I bought mine from Wide World of Maps in Mesa, Arizona for $15.95, but you can get them much cheaper at Amazon.com Whenever we discuss routings, this map will be the one with coordinate points. The ISBN Number of this map is 978-3-7079-0425-3

PRICING: Using a typical FJR Forum Alps Riding Couple such as Mr. and Mrs. Hot RodZilla, here is what they would pay if they were riding two up on a BMW F800GS and sharing a room together. They are considered a Twin, Duo and AJ and Carrie would each be paying $2,080: For a total of $4,160. But, if we get at least 10 participants they would be paying 5% less: For a total of $3,952.

Who are you talking to Don...you're the only one posted up so far on this thread. Are you quoting yourself...then answering yourself? Does your SO know you have this split personality?

I'm just trying to keep a running account for Roster List purposes of Alps Extreme participants going between the 3 forums: www.fjrforum.com, 1300FJRiders.com and www.azbeemers.org/forum. That happened to be Mudslide Miller of AZB, I want 10 people for sure, but I also don't want us to overbook this trip.

Also, we need to know who is going so we can pair off for the rooms, otherwise you're going to wind up paying the single occupancy rate, a very expensive proposition. Since it appears Herr Petey may not go on this ride, I'm now searching for an Alps roomie! Yeah Wheatie, SkooterG knows all about that!

I was thinking about the TT races but now you got me thinking about the Alps.

Drink beer in Munich on my 60th birthday on the 16th and have a few days to sober up for a ride in the Alps. Could work.

Man Bill, now I know why my ears were burning! I was just about to send an e-mail to all of the FJR Forum Copper Canyon Attendees: Rushes, You, Scott, Tucson Joe, Chris and the others that rode Mexico with us. And then here you popped up, think about going to Berlin with Donna and I; we'll drink beer in the Ratskeller and piss on the Reichstag together! Es geht mihr gut, Schatzie!

One of the best bonuses of this Alps Extreme Tour is that you will have the opportunity to meet one of the nicest guys on our FJR Forum: Stef "teerex51" of Milan, Italy. I sent the message below to Stef and his buddies at the Italian FJR Forum; and Stef responded that they would ride up from Italy to meet up with us for a day or two of our trip. Stef has helped out many Gringos who have come to ride in his backyard. Stef also organized the FJR Forum Pyrenees run that a number of Forum Members rode! BeemerDonS, Orestes and Dr. Bob rode through Spain, France and Andorra with Stef. Here is an outstanding Dolomites Motorcycle video that "teerex51" Stef produced:

"Mi Bueno Amigo Stef, Thank You! I always love your Dolomites / Alps Ride Reports; I just wanted to let You, Hook, Mek and your other Italian FJR Forum Friends know that we FJRiders will be coming to visit you next August of 2012.

If you and your Italian FJR Forum Friends can meet up with us in the Alps / Dolomites I would love to buy you guys a drink, to once again thank you for the Hospitality you showed us on the Pyrenees FJR Ride you took us on! Dr. Bob Flanders and Uri Schumm will be joining us on this ride.

After the first of the year, I'll know the exact hotel names and addresses and will send them to you. It may make the most sense to just meet us in Levico, but come ride with us for as long as you can. I am hoping that David "Orestes" Clarke of Chatham, Kent, England will be joining us!"

https://www.teleportt...otorcycles.html Here's an excellent Ride Report on an Edelweiss Bike Travel Alps Tour, written by a couple named Tom and Linda. While it's not the exact same tour as ours, it is accompanied by escort vans, it does cover a lot of the same passes we FJR Forumites will ride!

Thanks Don for posting up that ride report.

I will also preruse that with Louanne in preparation for the 2013 version of the Alps mcy tour.

https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Journeys-Through-Alps-Beyond/dp/1884313701/ref=pd_sim_b_1 Hi Mark and Louanne, Pick up a copy of John Hermann's Motorcycle Journeys Through the Alps and Beyond, Fourth Edition; you can get a new copy for $20 and a used copy for $10. I own a 3rd Edition personally autographed by John, he was President of the San Diego BMW Club at the same time I was President of the Arizona BMW Club. Fantastic fun reading and tremendous in depth insights into the Alps!

The December issue of Rider Magazine has a nice story of an Edelweiss tour through the Alps.
If anyone would like a copy of this six page article mailed to them, contact Don Stanley at either [email protected] or 480-440-4666 with your mailing address. This was written by Riding Well Columnist Eric Trow, it's not our Alps Extreme tour, but covers a lot of the same Alps roads.

Well, after some dancing around all this, I'm IN. Gonna send you an email, Don. No time like the present to start getting worked up about doing this, and it's just going to build from here. Only 277 days to go, but who's counting?

Can't. Freaking. WAIT! . :yahoo:
