May 11-14, 2012 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, AND Monday!) SE Ohio Ramble (2 riding days this year)

(Note the dates above...different than originally advertised.)

You can stay anywhere you like, but we'll be based out of the Best Western in Caldwell, OH. LINK

I've got Friday night through Sunday night booked...checking out Monday. My advice: get your rooms booked ASAP...I have no idea how many they have.

Friday - Travel day

Saturday - day loop to the east of the interstate

Sunday - day loop to the west into the Hocking Hills region

Monday - get home day

Like all Rambles, there are no room discounts, no event fees, no organized dinners (a restaurant is within walking distance), no speeches, no nuthin'...just riding and having a good time with your FJR friends, and maybe a cold beverage after the ride.

This is one of my favorite places to ride...so although I hate organizing stuff, I end up doing it nearly every year.

Both loops WILL be based out of Caldwell so as to minimize packing/unpacking. If you can only join us for one of the two days...that's fine. HOWEVER, you will weep at the missed twisty roads if you miss one of these days.

If you're signing up and coming, make a motel reservation and let me know about it. I'll add you to the list below. You won't be sorry. Guaranteed fun.

The finalized routes are now completed for Saturday and Sunday's loop. and I have gpx files to send out to those that want them. I have some jpeg files from MS S&T of the routes...they are included below.

As a recap, remember that we are doing two days of Ramble this year. Saturday will be east of the Interstate, and Sunday will be west of the Interstate over to the Hocking Hills area.

Saturday - East Route, 312 miles (plus/minus)

Sooooooo....as you can see, there's enough riding to keep everybody happy for a little while. All I ask for the small bit of work to organize this is

  1. Everybody ride in such a way to keep the rubber side down
  2. Be respectful of the riders around you and give them plenty of space
  3. Be respectful of the people in the area that we come in contact with, whether at the motel or while passing during the ride
  4. Have fun during the ride and after the ride in the parking lot swapping stories of the awesome curves
  5. Buy me a good beer.
I will hopefully be able to make up some turn by turn directions by May...I won't be making maps...but will highlight your map if you bring it to me the night before the ride.

I will have a rider's meeting the night before the ride to go over the the route, and talk about stops along the route, and firm up the rider groups.

EDIT: Added section below on riding groups.

Okay...I've divided us into smaller groups for safety sake, faster gas stops, etc...so if you used to be a beotch and now you are a dick, or used to be a dick and now you are a focker...look below to find out what I think you are.

These groupings are based on past experience, peoples posts, and just plain guesses regarding what groups people might want to ride in.

This is NOT hard and fast...if anyone wants to switch, or even want to form their own group...please let me know ASAP so I can adjust the groups.

There is no designated group leader for any of these. You all are expected to learn the route, or choose your own route and choose a ride leader amongst yourselves.

Please know that if I move someone to a different group, I am just trying to make a judgement to make the day a safe and fun ride for all.

The general pace is faster in group A than group B and so on...but there may be faster riders in Group C than Group B, etc...I'm just trying to put like paced people together -AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE- so people feel less tempted to go a pace faster than they should.

I hate to commit and then have to cancel like last year, but at this time I have all intentions of being there.

Nice change up on the route. Is that 595 going south out of Murrey City, and 356 between 56 and 50?

Is a turn by turn route in the making?

Sorry,I just realized 595 goes south out of New Straitsville.

Denny,

It's always good to hear that you have intentions of coming. I hate for people to cancel...just because it means they miss all the good times.

Yes...a route is in the making. I'll make a route in MS Streets and Trips for those committed to this ride. If someone needs a turn by turn sheet instead, send me a PM and i'll make one for you.

BTW, to everybody...I am guessing about good roads over in WV...just by looking at the Gazetteer I have. If someone knows first hand of issues with any of these roads...like construction...or road damage, feel free to let me know.

As always, this route will not be prescouted by me because of the distances from home involved and my limitations on vacation time...so we may run into a surprise or two on the Ramble days. If that happens, just hang loose and we'll play it by ear. :)

It's not like this is an EOM gathering or anything...it's just a bunch of us having fun riding around. :yahoo:

Well I will not make this one. Have to conserve on time off a little due to the cross country ride planned for NAFO. Very good possibilty of hitting that area later in the year.

That's too bad Bob. I kinda figured it though with the big trip to BC coming up.

We sure had a lot of fun last year though, didn't we! :D

Last year after the Ramble, Bob was too scared to ride home by himself, so Yamafitter, griff, 0Face and myself escorted him through WV. (Bob is the 4'-10 guy on the right.)

What a pussy that Bob guy is. :clapping:

I was scared! That bald tire on the back made for some interesting turns on those wet roads. I just noticed that Griff looks like someone stole his rubber duck in that picture. And by the way, it's 4' 11"!

In any case, had a great time riding with you at last years's Ramble. Have fun this year at Joe's camping meet and barb's CFR meet. :clapping:

BTW, looking for someone (non-snorer) to room split (two queen beds) at the Best Western for Fri, Sat, Sunday nights. Send me a PM if interested.

EDIT: Room splitter found.

Hey Mark,

This is the best news I've had all week. You can count on me both days. My brother, as usual, is a certain maybe.Ray will probably be there as well.

Does this date change mean that you're going to be at Nelson Ledges Race Track on the 19th. The offer still stands about using one of my race bikes.

I'm so excited that I think I'll take a nap.

Alright Ray...putting you down for both days. Glad you can make it! :clapping:

I will let your brother and Ray post up if they decide to commit. Hope they can make it.

As far as your offer of a race bike...I am definitely not worthy. I'm just a bike tourer from Wheaton. I know nothing about racing...but thanks again for the tremendously gracious offer. (I can't believe I just said no again. Ray you are the devil...stop tempting me.)
