I've wanted one of these and looked into it. Is it possible to direct wire them because all the ones I have seen had the cigarette lighter end on them?

The GXM30 antenna connectos to a Streepilot or Zumo with a USB interface and doesn't require a power source. Whatever you were looking at is not the antenna I have.

So then, you have to run on battery power while you are using it?

I have a never used Garmin OEM GXM30 antenna available, the only trick would be finding it. If interested send me a PM.

The GXM gets its power from the GPS via the USB port in the cradle. The cradle is powered from the bike.

Hrm, had to go back and look. Seems the GTM is what I need and that's very different from the GXM.
