I now have over 5000 miles on Continental RA2 GT tires. I just returned from a 3344 mile trip to the Smoky Mountains. 1762 miles were on very twisty roads & 1582 were traveling to and from on Mainly interstate. The rest of the 5000 are Florida riding with a few of our so called twisty roads thrown in.
The tires have been maintained at 40 psi front & 43 psi rear. The twisty riding was pretty aggressive while the highway miles were cruised at 75 to 80 mph.
The rear tire is wearing very evenly and is about 1/3 gone. New tread depth was 6.3 mm and now they are at 4 mm center & 3 mm on the edges.
The front is also wearing evenly and is about 1/2 gone. New tread depth was 4.6 mm and now it's at 2.4 mm center and 1.8 mm on the edges.
Both front and rear have very slight flattening in the center. The tires preformed very well over all. Grip in on the twisty roads was mostly very good. I did a lot of full throttle in second gear coming out of sweeping corners while leaned hard over and the tires held well. The rear tire did slip slightly twice on wet spots after a rain shower. But I was pushing a little harder than I should have been. Nothing dramatic and they recovered quickly. The front slipped once on what looked like a dry road. Might have been something on the road as one of the other bikes felt the same thing in that corner. It was not gravel but the bike moved a few inches, enough to get my attention real quick.
Overall I like the way the tires perform and are holding up. I like their handling slightly better than the PR#'s I had on the bike before. But because of the slipping I will most likely go with Angel GT's next time around and give them a fair shot. In the mean time I think I'll get a new front tire under Continental's tire recall. It is free rubber after all.
