In my ignorance of the construction of the '14 FJR, I was wondering if the SR357 rack alleviates any of the concern over cracking subframes I've read about - does it bolt to the main frame of the bike? I assume it uses the factory grab handle holes?

Yes and Yes

It bolts to the subframe using the mounting holes for the factory grab handles.

It alleviates the risk to the rear part of the subframe because it is a much stiffer construction than the OEM parts it replaces.

Though this lists 2006 -- 2012, this is how it fit my 2013.
