We started out with a simple plan -- meet for breakfast and then figure out a route.

Fortunately, the PNW offers some awesome views no matter where we go, which in and of itself, makes the decision even more difficult. After braving dense fog along with temps in the mid 30s, Niehart, Curly Joe and yours truly got together yesterday morning.

Since we're close to the Cascades and the foothills, options abound. Puget Sound and the ocean, foothill loops and even the mountains were easily within reach. Weather was clearing and the mountains were beckoning so the decision was made.

Mountains it was and specifically Mt Baker!

Not a lot of pics on the trip up. Road conditions were decent enough, though at this time of year there is still lots of leaf, pine needle and other debris making cornering lines and tire placement critical in many spots.

Once the snow started to show at roadside, it got interesting and we were reminded many times of this...

Have I mentioned that temps dropped to below freezing, nope didn't think so. Each of us only had a couple slips and slides on the way up. Funny, the downhill side looked to have more sand / crushed shale mixture then the uphill side...great.

Once we get to the top, Niehart informs me that "if" we make it back down [alive] without any mishaps, the route was his idea -- if not, then it was mine. Not quite how I remember the discussion at breakfast...

Curly Joe, glad he made it to the top.

The parking lot was covered with snow.

Where we originally had planned to go -- missed it by that much...

As luck would have it, the trip down was uneventful albeit slow as we tiptoed through the crushed shale.

No ride report is complete without food porn. We rewarded ourselves appropriately and even scored a decent view to finish the day!

Great ride and company, who needs a plan anyway!

Man-o-Man... That's some pretty stuff. That scenery is breath taking. We have some beautiful stuff here in Florida too but, it's flat as an ironing board. We make the best of what we all have. On the bright side, I haven't shoveled snow since I was a kid. :D

I was kinda hoping someone was out riding today. It was sure beautiful but definitely heated vest weather.

Nice! Another reminder that I need to explore the mountains in Washington in the next couple years (without chains). Thanks, George.

Nice layout G. I was out a bit also but to many chores so a quick (couple hours) lunch run and home to winterize. Mountains were really out eh. Might dabble a bit the next few days but it will not be in the early am.

Very scenic pics & nice ride report. While many don't like the blistering heat of the summer in AZ, our riding season will continue on while most are just putting up their bikes for the winter. Guess there is a trade-off for living anywhere in the US, but I'll take those four hot months & year round riding over being back in the snow where I grew up. It's too bad that artic blast had to come so early for some of you this year. I don't envy you.

PNW scenery has got to be the most gorgeous in the country, especially the variety you have depending on what direction you decide to travel. Too bad about the traffic, though. If you ever get lane splitting legalized up there, I'm moving! Thx, George.

It's never a good outings unless it's a great adventure. You guys made us all proud George! Fantastic country we enjoy on a daily basis here in The Evergreen State. With so many options, it looks like heading for the mountains was the right call. Wonderful camera work as well. Mt. Shuksan rarely lets the camera lens down.

Keep going!

These guys ride all year up here, I went on my first internet date with escapefjrtist & Piefart opps I mean Niehart on a cold January morning and the temp gauge's reading in the low twenty's. We are smart enough to drive and meet for breakfast if it's bone soak-er raining, well some of us anyhow!

Wish I would have been there, thanks for the RR G-Man.
