I think this is the correct forum for this post.

It looks like I will be going there in May. I'm just kicking around things to do since I don't gamble. Is riding in & around Las Vegas worth renting a bike?

Interesting things are good. Twisty & interesting things mucho, mucho better!

When I go there I usually rent a Miata. Cruising the strip at night

with the top down is a blast.

I wouldn't go anywhere during the day without AC.

With that said, there are lots of places reasonably close that are

worth the drive.

i used eaglerider and rented a bike - they had a concours, and goldwings nice bunch of people - only issue i had was the restriction on mileage, i couldn't get to grand canyon and back without a surcharge in one day

There are also rides on the site and other places - i just did a little loop out to valley of fire and along the lake and back home - was a nice break from all the casino's

have fun

There are about three semi twisty roads in the area and if you more right along they can be done by lunchtime. Mt. Charleston, Valley of fire and Red rock canyon.

Red Rock Canyon is a nice little ride. Doing the full loop with stops for sightseeing would be about 3 hours in total.

Riding the lake road to Overton and back is our favorite ride. Sweepers, good scenery, etc. This would be about 4-5 hours including stops to look around and lunch.

As already mentioned, it will be extremely hot at that time of year: high 80s in morning and 100 degrees by 1100 hrs.

Tijuana is only 6 hrs away. Just Sayin' :D
This is just great: Another Florida ButtHead, so Vic is RadioHowie retiring as Resident FJR Forum Asshole and you're applying for RH's job!

https://www.motorcycleroads.com/Routes/Nevada_104.html FJRay nailed it: Mt. Charleston, Valley of Fire and Red rock Canyon. :) JSNS!
Don, RadioHowie will always have that job. I'm a cream puff. :)

Okay, I will bite!!! What is in Tijuana that Vic and Bremerdon know about. I can only guess the outcome if there really is a back story to this!!

Let the conversation about vegas continue

Btw, the wife and I went out there last winter and they will rent you a super car like a Ferrari or similar for under 300 bucks for a really long extended test ride if u find the right place. We considered doing that but bailed because of how rough the ride was going to be. And we had a long plane ride back the next day.

If you can swing it, rent one for a few days. Southern Utah is close and worth riding. Some of the best roads in the west are just up I 10 and hang a right in Cedar City, Utah .

A few days is out of the question. I realize that there are a few of you on here that are independently wealthy. I am not. Rentals are somewhere around $159 a day. One day is all I'd be up for... so, a day ride it is. I didn't realize it'd be so hot so early in the year. Renting a bike may be totally out of the question if it's that hot. It is the desert after all. I need to remember that. Thank you for all of the input. It is much appreciated.

However luvtoride it is a Dry Heat, yes you can count on a 100F high in Las Vegas for May but with absolutely no Humidity! JSNS!

One day would be fine to experience a bit of the area on a bike. Consider renting from 1300 hrs one day until 1300 the next day. Do a ride to Overton, or part way the first afternoon, and then do Red Rock Canyon the next morning. Those two rides will give you a nice experience in the one day and allow you to rip around in the evening. It will be hot but we ride all the time in the heat, just drink lots of water. If you decide you want to do this and need more specific info, let me know via PM.

I really didn't realize that it'd be that hot that early in the year. I strongly considered doing this but I am not so sure that I'd be up for that much heat. I think that I might need to totally scrap this idea because of it, too.

I thank everyone for the information.

May is usually when the oven is just getting started...the mornings will still be cool. That said, if you do really want to get some two wheel time, head to Mt Charleston. Its a nice loop ride that will take just a couple of hours (the ski resort there was still open this past April, when I was last there). Leave early enough in the morning, and you will only have an hour or so back down in the valley. There is a small town area there where you can stop to eat and refresh (there is no gas on the mountain though), so can delay the return trip until later in the afternoon/early evening.

I used to ride year-round in Vegas (and still do in Phoenix). Hot weather riding is all about hydration.
