Location
Central Alberta, CANADA
in the recent tradition of "Set a location and a date and they will come." the location has been set since CFR last year and the date decided and confirmed months ago. Nelson is not a big town. Everything is basically within walking distance of everything else. Pick a hotel, the closer to downtown the better, and we'll see you there. Unfortunately, due to timing, there are no special group rates available. I'll likely be staying at the Hume and their Library Lounge will make a good Rally Central.

As part of a major (4.5 week) North America tour, I will be in the area SOMETIME but I don't know if it will coincide with CFR. My original plan was to leave New Brunswick the second week of June which would put me in south-central BC somewhere toward the end of the first week in July. I can't extend my trip by a couple of weeks (as much as I would like that) but maybe I can shift my start date. My travel dates are a fine balancing act dictated by work schedules and weather. Heat in the South and cold/snow in the mountains. I will make it if I can.

Looked at some hotel pricing and they are pretty proud of their stuff. It doesn't seem like there is much of a plan other than fend for yourself. Looks like a probably not for us. will check back later.

Sounds a lot like WCR in 2011. How did that turn out?
Was awesome! Quite Roads, Great Scenery, and great people!

That said, a lot of time and effort went into WCR 2011.

With much of the population here complaining about rally fees and "too much" organization, and a lack of interested volunteers, this CFR is currently a lot LESS organized than that WCR. ;)

Yes, the Hume Hotel is pretty spendy, but it is a nice hotel. There are more affordable options in town.

Unfortunately, without committed participants, its impossible to plan or book anything for meals. When we have an idea of numbers, we can set something up.

If I make it to Nelson at the appropriate time, I think I will likely be looking for a nearby campsite. Unfortunately, it's looking more like I will be passing through before the event but plans are still up in the air. There must be some decent camping in the immediate area.

If FastJoyRide and Niehart and FjRob1300 and possibly FjRay and Patti are going.. I have to plan for this too. That sounds like a fun group and just the right size too. Oh, did I mention some of the best motobike riding and scenery I've laid eyes on was in that neck o' the woods? Oh, forgot the organizer. He's pretty coolio too!

FYI

Nelson BC is only 11 hours or so from Billings via the fastest route. For a few hours more, you could do Glacier NP and the Going to the Sun Road along the way. If you're that close, you gotta do it.

Edit: I could suggest a 30 or so hour trip to get you back to Billings that would knock your socks off!

Another Edit: Possibly a nicer ride from Billings to Nelson but timing depends on Kootenay Lake ferry. Not sure about some the road conditions on the US side.

I just booked Sylvia and I into the Villa Motel for a Cdn. $90. per night senior rate (I think that is about $2.99 US these days). It's a couple of minute ride to come over the river to the Hume - but it will be a much quieter place to sleep!

If you are thinking of attending this rally I recommend that you book a room soon. This is the peak of the peak season in Nelson - rooms are pricey and a lot of properties are full already! JS&NS...
