So,

Being a guvtment employee, I had Presidents Day off and what better way to test the new MV Risers then with a quick loop of the North State,

Left Redding at a leisurely 9:30 AM, to give Bambi a chance to hold up for the day. Headed West on 299 past Whiskytown Lake and ran into the "straightening project on Buckhorn summit. For those of you who have never had the pleasure of Buckhorn in it's original form, you have missed out on one of the funnest sections of 299 out of Redding. They are moving mountains as they straighten out this section into a more "user friendly" version of it's former self. There is only about a third of the original road left, and from the looks of things, that won't last much longer.

Almost to Weaverville and man, it was cold and cloudy (for like 3 minutes)

Don't know how you guys back East make it through the winter!

Anyway, here is a shot of Trinity lake south shore. It's down just a bit......

Here is a shot at the north shore boat ramp

It's gonna be a long dry summer!

After a mid ride relax by the side of the road

I proceeded up the very dry, clean and all to myself hwy 3, which I totally recommend if you have the time.

The west side of the Gazelle-Callahan highway was sublime, but the east side, headed toward I5 had gravel in all the apexes.

222 miles on the new risers and I love 'em

Thank for coming along.

Greg

Thanks for that, Greg. I need to get over there again this year to remolest the roads in that area. For the record, I'm opposed to wasting tax dollars on the misdirected folly of straightening either 299 or 36.

Nice RR and pics...looks like you had a great day, while I had to work...Bastard!

I got to do the same thing Greg. Sunny and warm up here...managed to get in almost 200 miles myself!

Thanks for the pics and RR, love those NorCal roads!

Nice report, Greg. Those look like some excellent roads up there. One day.... One day.... I'd love to break me off a piece of that. :)

Great quick report. Those roads sound familiar from my western trip. Didn't see anything other thanks headlight beam and the critters off the side of the road. My dumb self for caught out way after dark on alder point road. I betuch look forward to retracing those roads in the daylight.

Greg's right, you come west and we'll show you a good time.
Most excellent report Greg, some great pictures!
It's on my bucket list, Bugnatr. You made the trip to EOM. I just might do the same and head out there to ride some of that in your neck of the woods. It might be sooner than later. Life is short! :)

Vic, I think it's actually a Minnesota/Scandinavian thing
Yep, Joe has it. My Minnesota comes out sometimes. Uff da https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uff_da

Alder Point is off the beaten path and is a twisty, rough road but has some real nice views. Riding it at night would not be the most enjoyable time to be on this road...

Thanks Greg for the reminder about Hwy 3. I chased MadMike up the entire length one day (sort of kept Feeger and Fairlaner in sight) and enjoyed every mile. It's a gGreat road that doesn't get enough press, but probably just as well. Caltrans might catch wind of that and put it on their straightening (deflowering) list which would be a shame.

Looks like it was a wonderful ride, thanks for sharing with us. It's amazing how much difference a little bar rise makes. I'd be a little bummed about the gravel in the curves, especially with that weather and the road basically all to yourself. However, you clearly made lemonaide.

I could have done without the "outhouse" pic, though.
