With all that is available in Hood River Oregon who knew the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum or WAAAM existed in Hood River. My kinda of place because old shit is there and for a few hours last Saturday it included my sorry ass, which is now an antique a well.

So the wife and I planned a two day ride to stay in Hood River Oregon and visit WAAAM. The route down was all on back roads from south Seattle area to Hood River via the east side of Mt. St. Helens. It is the last weekend of May the snow is all melted out up to 6000 feet in the Cascades and the road to Windy Ridge is open. This usually does not happen until the 3rd week of July. We get a bonus riding season this year.

With all the excuses to go somewhere finished let the photos begin. These were all shot with my One Plus One phone, not the usual pocket camera or large DSRL Canon camera - just to be different and learn what the cell phone can do.

Linda, the FJR with Mt. Adams in the background. If Mt. Adams was anywhere else it would be a National Park, but around here it a third rate volcano and is relegated to some National Forest land and that's about it.

Mt. St Helens from the wonderfully twisted and ever scenic Windy Ridge road aka FS 99.

We stayed in the Best Western on the Columbia River in Hood River Oregon. We got the river side view room, the freeway and rail road is on the other side of the hotel and I figured this would be quieter and scenic. We got a dinner discount of 25% plus a free breakfast it was very reasonable vs a Cheap'O hotel. The restaurant on site has very good food.

Bridge of the God's at sunset.

On Saturday morning we go to the WAAAM. This is where the One Plus One cellphone camera fell short giving some blurred images.

All of these machines are ready to fly, ride or drive - something the museum is very proud of. Not up on the aeroplane or automobile history it would be helpful to have a plaque with the historical significance of each machine as is done the the LeMay Museum in Tacoma and the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinville Oregon.

This brings a who new meaning to high siding!

After a few hours in the museum we head home the way we came except at Randle we head east on US 12 to drive around the east side of Mt. Rainier.

Boy - when the weather is good up there, it's FANTASTIC!!!

Anything vintage bikes and airplanes interest me, but two for the price of one? No brainer.

Well done - tx.

sure is pretty and green up there...
Yeah but that's gonna change soon so come on up before it all turns brown and the forest fire season begins. Like California, Oregon and Washington are suffering from drought and or lack of snow pack in the mountains.

There's something about a 38 Indian with fish tails. Niiiiiice.

Thanks for the road update and the cool pictures.

Nice RR, that museum looked like it had some great displays and the great mountain scenery was icing on the cake.

I used to be a docent at the Hiller Aviation museum out in the Bay Area (San Carlos, CA) and we had a JN-4D Jenny on display. It had been rebuilt (all the wood spars, ribs, etc) and was ready for re-covering, so it was 'naked'. That was my favorite bird in the place. That craftsmanship in the woodworking was on display for all to see, and you could get up close under the wings and see how it all fit together, how the control cables ran, everything. A work of art.

Looks like a fantastic trip, in weather, scenery and museum choice!! Nicely done!
