The Duchess our friend Ken & I just went on an overnight trip to red Rock Canyon Nv. Was beautiful 70 degree weather and we made a lunch stop at Lake Mead, than onto Vegas for the nite.

We had dinner next door to our motel at Joe's New york Pizza (great Pizza!) Then went over across the street to the hard rock casino & looked at all the rock memorabllia & fooled around with a little gambling. They had a 72 chevy monte carlo on display, just like the one I had (gold with a black vinal top) Man did that car bring back memories!

to be continued....

Friday morning we packed up the bikes & headed through Vegas, and picked up some sandwiches for a day of hiking & sightseeing on another beautiful warm day in Red Rock Canyon!

Here's part 2 of the videos!

After a stop at the visitor center and a short walk around we drove out on the scenic loop & stopped at the sandstone quarry parking lot. -- In the 1900s, the Excelsior Company was formed to produce sandstone blocks for use in building construction. The company opened a quarry in the Calico Hills in 1905 that employed up to 15 men. Workers cut and stockpiled 10 ton blocks, and then used a massive tractor, resembling a train locomotive, to haul two blocks at a time to Las Vegas.

The Big Devil Wagon, as they called the tractor, consumed about 400 gallons of crude oil per day, and it became too expensive to operate the quarry in what was poor quality sandstone. The quarry was abandoned in 1912.

We hiked up the Calico Tank trail (a pretty intense hike!) to the top where the tank (natural depression that holds water) is. There is a path alongside the tank that I deemed a little too risky for me & the dog ( a section no more than a foot wide with a 20 ft drop off), so Ken went up to the point where he had a magnificent view of Vegas!

After our hike it felt good to sit on the bike and ride the rest of the scenic loop around the park. Then on home through Vegas, which went smooth considering it was friday afternoon. It was a fantastic trip!

Here's the Finale video!

Thanks for sharing that!I hope to ride there someday as well...
