I recently changed the oil on my FJR and had not started the engine. This would not do. New oil must properly circulate in the engine after changing. Don Stanley posted a photo suggesting what warm Arizona winters look like.
Circulating oil and proving Arizona is not the only place to ride in late fall provide enough incentive to go for a ride.
The temperatures on this day was between 36 and 46 degrees. Certainly not Arizona warm, but not Ontario Canada cold either. My Gerbing jacket and pants kept me toasty warm and the above freezing temps kept the shiny side up.
One of my favorite rides is around the Hood Canal. And here is the route.
I left home around 10:00am to avoid frozen roads. Good plan as the low at my house was about 28 that morning. I ride, mostly on freeways, about 1 hour before reaching Purdy crossing the Tacoma Narrows bridge on the way.

I was enjoying my new HJC helmet, a FG-17, my first low cost helmet. Nice helmet if you want a non-modular Snell rated helmet for about $200 clams. It compares favorably to my Arai Quantum II. I have had Shoei and Arai buckets in the past but this HJC bucket is impressive for the cash. I cant think of any reason to go back the the high dollar shells again.
Hwy 302 starts as fill on fill in Henderson Bay, at Purdy Washington, where you will find this lonely tree. I was shooting into the sun so there is a lot of contrast.
This is a nice road is tree lined with a couple mild but enjoyable turns and views of the bays on Hood Canal.

North Bay near Victor Washington, shot on the go! The Olympic Mountains are in the distance.
Hwy 302 ends and it is where I pick up Hwy 106 which follows the south side of Hood Canal meaning this time of year there is no sun for the north facing hillside blocks the sun. I turn up the heated clothing. The plus side of the south side road is it follows the water for several miles with views of the Olympic Mountains.

Hwy 106 join Hwy 101 where I head northbound and on to Lake Cushman dam. The only reason to go there was to take this photo.

For lunch I stop at the Hama Hama Seafood store in Lilliwaup Washington where they feature their own oysters. Yumm! Usually I buy oysters in the shell but today I buy them in a jar already shucked with some smoked salmon. I have not tried the oysters yet - gotta get some cocktail sauce. My wife wants to cookem - argh..... nothing worse than a cooked oyster. I like em fresh.

I eat the smoked salmon and put the oysters on ice in the saddle bag then continue to Quilcene where I get some non-ethanol gas. Yes! Then it is on to Dabob Bay along Coyle and Thorndyke road where there is some undulating twisty pavement along with view of Puget Sound.
