Here are some pictures I shot during the week I was at NAFO:

Loaded up and departing Georgia! Gonna do some dirt & street riding!

Go West young man!

20160723_160322.jpg

Yeah. It was hot.

Saw these in Olathe and had to stop to get a few photos.

Beautiful geology in Black Canyon!

Doug & Russ arrived to Montrose early too and they provided me with a week of great companionship and fabulous riding!

People passing time built these at the road construction stop on 550 Million Dollar Highway

Ophir Pass was absolutely stunning! Fairly easy ride to an amazing view!

Great shot of Doug & Russ heading down from Ophir Pass

Yours truly at an an amazing overlook on Last Dollar Road.

Another view of this overlook on Last Dollar Road.

Doug & I rode up SR18 from Ouray up to Engineering Pass. Holy crap! What a freaking knarly-ass trail that was! We rode very steep inclines with rocks the size of basketballs for almost 20 minutes! Tried not to look at the drop offs 12" to my right practically the whole way up. Crazy chit for sure!

20160727_111545.jpg

School is in! On the way up we saw an old mine crumbing apart and Doug explained that this part was part of an old rock crusher that the miners used to bust up rocks into a finer pieces so the gold could be separated and collected.

Made it to the top of Engineer Mountain! This shot is at "Oh! Point"

20160727_115153.jpg

That's Doug back at Oh! Point trying to find his gloves or something.

Gorgeous scenic beauty coming down from Engr Pass towards Lake City

20160727_121530.jpg

This was along a short 5 mile scenic route called "The Lake Fork Spur"

The Blue Mesa Cutoff was incredibly nice! That little dot waaaay out on the road is Doug

20160727_152215.jpg

I finally caught up to him.

Party back at the hotel! Uncle Hud showing some love!

Wow! Thanks for recommending this road Petey!! Highway 65 Grand Mesa Scenic Byway looking back towards Grand Junction.

We chased a 2016 Mustang GT down the backside of this highway for about 20 minutes and I was absolutely amazed he didn't wreck he was going so damn fast. Could even smell the heck out of his brakes through a few turns he was coming into turns so hot. Amazing driving skillz for sure. I can tell you this: I could not have passed him. Then we get down to the bottom at the small town of Cedaredge and he turns right and waves back at us ... I turn back and look and it's a girl! WTF? I just got schooled by a girl! We all 3 laughed our asses off about that!

Great trip!!!!

Thanks for adding to our memories; more of the gorgeous and spectacular views of the Rockies. CO is definately one of the top 3 states in the country to motorcycle in; both on and off road (IMHO). It should be on everyone's bucket list, who hasn't been there!! I've been there numerous times and I always look forward to the next time.

John, it was a real pleasure to meet and ride with you and Russ. Your avatar is you for sure, haven't seen that many wheelies with both the 400 and the Feejeer

in a long time. We sure had a blast riding the dirt in the high country of Colorado except the part where they used the magnesium chloride solution on the dirt roads, that stuff sucks but I think we got most off at the car wash. Both the bikes did well climbing Mineral Creek as your are right, it was one knarly climb.

Good times for sure with all the NAFO peeps.

Great pictures of some awesome riding. Feeling sorry to miss ya'll! Thanks for letting me live vicariously.

But, but . . . you did! In fact, the whole PNW was sadly underrepresented in CO. What the heck was that about?

This would have been a hell of a thing to bring a dirt bike to like you fellers did. As gorgeous as the parts of Colorado visible from an FJR are, and they're damn gorgeous, it's pretty clear there's plenty more to see that's out of FJR range! Thanks for more great pics, John.

Thanks for sharing the great pics!

Wish I hadn't missed the trip....work is getting in the way of most everything this year.

OK, because of those photos, you are forgiven for making the transit in an air conditioned vehicle. The photos are great! As an avid backpacker, I always enjoy the scenes that can only be viewed after leaving the pavement.

It was a pleasure to meet you in Montrose. And if you can wheelie an FJR, I'll be happy to collect video evidence.

I was just thinking the same thing as I was going through my photos... California will always be Number One for me personally but Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming definitely vie for second place... great meeting you, John, and thanks for sharing some views that us tarmac huggers didn't get a chance to see... makes me wish I could ride dirt again!

Pilot - luved the combo NAFO ride. Those shots from the dirt riding are a completely different perspective from what us street dwellers see while riding in Colorado. You've got me thinking.... bad, bad, bad!!! damn U!
