Hi All!

Below is a pic from my '06 AE's wiring harness under the tank. Specifically where what I believe the Dealer plugged in the S4 ground repair harness if I'm not mistaken. Take a look, its the one with the white tape. I believe it ends up at the battery negative, have not confirmed. I also see another ground connector to the right which i will inspect. Can anyone confirm the connector numbers for me and if indeed there is a dealer installed cable on the left? i did some searches and never seen an image if this repair part.

You see that I have the proper ignition switch wiring repair part. Just want to confirm these recalls were done regardless what is on record. i think white zip ties are not OEM so that's a clue.

Next pic is looking in from the front. Now wonder these non-waterproof connectors fail in addition to the over amp for the rating. Gets a lot of road environment blowing in here! Gonna seal these with liquid rubber tape me think.

Winter here in NE so taking the time to make sure this recently acquired Garage queen is up to all the p/m. Rode it a couple thousand in the fall with great enjoyment, and no issues other than a sticking brake pedal and some idle rpm and sync adjustments.

Thanks everyone for all the tech support!!

Can't access photos, Google denies knowledge.

These connectors are not underrated for the current they are asked to carry while they are in good condition, nor is the wiring underrated. Once corrosion starts, however, heat is generated by the resistance of the corrosion, not by any inadequate current rating.

As for the lack of weather-proofing, that's an entirely different story, they are clearly inadequate. Unfortunately, Yamaha continue to use these on their later FJRs, though possibly not in the grounding capacity of the Gen 2 bikes.

Can anyone else get to the photos? I'm confused. Tried to follow the directions in the help section of the forum. Hope you can't get to all my photos on Google, Ha!

it prompted me to log in to Google, and I am logged in, on my account. Your pictures are private, apparently.

If you are concerned about corrosion getting into the connectors, put some dielectric grease in them. Take the connectors apart, squirt some in, and that will keep the corrosion at bay. You will still need to check on them every so often though.

And be prepared for failure anyway. I opened, cleaned and electrically gooped all 8 spiders every spring without exception. Took 8 yrs but my S4 failed anyway.

That cable with the white tag is the recall fix cable that's attached to spider S4 and goes to the battery. In my spider case last year, disconnecting that cable revealed a failed S4 (scorch marks) that ultimately resulted in Yamaha agreeing to replacing my entire wiring harness at their cost.
