Sorry Boss, I'm going...

While I have only met a few Forum members, I really appreciate this forum for the wealth of knowledge and the members of it.

I recently took off a Saturday for the Moonshine Lunch Run. This was my fourth time attending and really enjoy the ride, the food and the thousands of friends that attend.

Today the owners son said I can't go next year. "Too busy"

I can't help but think that 50 weeks advance notice would be enough.

After all, I did stay over on a Saturday for 5 hours to install a snowplow for a commercial customer. I did start on the owners zero turn 20 minutes before closing. And the list goes on.....

If I get canned for going, so be it. I can change jobs with a phone call.

Maybe I can make a Dr's appointment in Casey, Illinois that Saturday. A doctors note would be hilarious.

Thought about calling in with a Viagra overdose, "can't come in today, too embarrassing"

Downright un-American to try to prohibit a rider from a much looked forward to ride.

I'm gonna outsmart this moron. Any ideas?

That's bullshit. Fortunately for you having a backup plan helps. I am also dealing with a dickhead boss at this time. Not sure I want to get into the details here though. I work for a large company so as long as I give enough notice there isn't much they can do.

Just be glad you're not retired. Right now you have a boss trying to control your time. When you're retired there seem to be an unlimited number of people with the power to do so.

I'm thinking that in retirement with the projects I have now that I will be busier than a 3 legged cat in a litterbox anyway. Without any other projects. Right now I wanna ride......

But you do have a valid point. The lovely wife is good at coming up with things for me to do.

I had people giving me crap this year too and we have been going for 5 years.

I think the title line "Sorry boss, I'm going.." is all I'd say. 50 weeks notice is more than ample, and trying to say "we will be too busy then" must mean the guy can see into the future?

My boss once "wasn't sure about" me taking a day off three weeks ahead, and I simply said, "I'm not asking you, I'm telling you... I won't be in that day".

There are only a few jobs in the world that are so critical that ones presence is mandatory. (ER doctor in a small town, the only other fireman in that town, the 911 operator...etc) as these are life and death kinda shit. So unless people could die because you took a day off, I'd stick with the title line and let the chips fall where they may. I've quit jobs for less silliness....

My boss once said 'if you miss the day or arrive late you are fired'. Walked away from that job in my mind immediately, didn't say anything to el jefe. Made sure to rearrange a few things so the job would not, could not continue. After 'the' day, about a week later, they called, offered more money, and the 'boss' was let go. A win-win for all.

Me, I'm retired. And I can only think of the one person who has the power to control my time.

And she could do that before I retired anyway.

Assuming that the "Plan B" job is the same kind of work that yer doin' now??? I'm thinking that it negatively affects your credit if the new job is not the same exact kind of work you're doing now. Also wondering if your credit is affected if perhaps there's a little time off between jobs. Just a thought in case yer serious about jumpin' ship. Ya might want to double check with those who understand the ins and outs of the credit rating system on this one before you make your final decision.

Dad always said that "Your credit is the most important thing you have, Son." Nowadays, even the cost of your car insurance is based in part on your credit rating. Ya might want to double check all this before making a decision you might regret later on.

I have over 1k in sick leave hours saved up, yet every time I come to work after a sick leave outage I get asked

the same question: "Where did you ride to this time"

Last time I was called in for discipline, they used a posting off of this forum as evidence against me…. so I will not post up

when it is not prudent.

The greatest response to a supervisor at work happened years ago with a friend of mine.

She was being constantly challenged by a supervisor on her absences so she went through the process of filing a complaint.

When that did not work out, she went to see a professional and complain about the "Stress" the supervisor was causing her.

The doctor wrote her an FMLA qualified case that said when she felt "Stressed", she could use absences from work to find

relief by any activity she deemed necessary… including a cycle ride. Her favorite line at work was "I feel stressed, I am going

for a ride"

She has since retired and I failed to get the name of her Doctor…

We have about 1500 employees in the building I am in now. We have a full time guy under a set of stairs at my work for exactly what your friend has. To much stress. Once you go see him you are good for anywhere from 30 to 90 days out. I haven't gotten to that stage yet.

Idiots who think they can control someone else need to be put in their place. How can he say that they will be too busy next year!? Life is too short...I'm just waiting for my boss to tell me he wants me to produce more, at which time I'll just tell him I will not and let him release me. I could use more time to ride, RV, ref soccer and enjoy life!
