Planning a Panama City To Panama City IBA Endurance Ride

Current Planned Start Date - December 27 or 28, 2018

I have been smoking on a ride to the Panama Canal for years and trying to find a way to make an IBA ride out of it. One of my reasons I want to make an IBA ride out of this is that I only have so much time available due to life and work and I just don’t want to keep waiting to attempt this ride.

I want to ride from Panama City, FL to Panama City, Panama ( take a photo of the Panama Canal ) and back as a LD endurance ride. I am not planning any sightseeing on this ride or layover time, that will be for a future ride when life slows down. I have spoken to the IBA about this ride years ago and they said just go do it and then we will create a new IBA ride.

Basically I want to see how fast I can ride from Panama City, FL To Panama City, Panama and back.

I am planning on doing this ride on my 2018 Gold Wing, yea a Gold Wing, I am setup for LD riding with AUX tanks, AUX lights, multiple GPS, hydration systems and etc…
It is all paved roads and I plan on riding on the Pan American Highway when and where possible.

I have been doing a lot of research over the years on many forums to see if this is possible and so far other than a little political unrest in some of the countries on the route I do not see why this ride cannot be successful.

I have been in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and Nicaragua for work in the past and Guatemala seemed to be the unsafe country at the time as I was moved in bulletproof vehicles with armed guards for the week I was there.

One of the things I was concerned about is riding at night but in talking to the President of IBA Mexico and others in Mexico this is not an issue if you stay on the main highways including the toll roads.

I have reached out to IBA members in Mexico including the President of IBA Mexico and for advice on Mexico and more and they have offered any and all support I will need including assisting gin the border crossings.

I am looking for someone to do this ride with me so if you are interested and your schedule works ( starting the ride in late December ) reach out to me at [email protected] or call me 954-648-1797.

How far, how many hours?

It 7500 miles round trip and I hope less than 10 days.

I decided on using a run flat car tire for the rear and I ordered this tire.

Honduras requires a fire extinguisher so I ordered two of these just in case someone else is riding with me.

One of the countries requires Warning / Hazard Triangle so I ordered a three pack of these again just in case someone is going with me.

I bought my Mexican insurance here. I bought a 30 day policy and I bought the full coverage instead of the minimum just in case.

I still need to get a Yellow Fever vaccine as Nicaragua requires one. I am going to do that after Thanksgiving.

Required Yellow Fever vaccine. Required fire extinguisher. Required Hazard Triangle.

If those are REQUIRED, you can just imagine the health, road, and traffic conditions. I'll get my jollies "riding along" via your Spotwalla trace.
