Help! Can anyone tell me where to find information on the Chromeit heat shield? I've seen it discussed hear several places but nothing on how to make/install it.

I don't find the left side heat too bad on my '05...but, it is annoying in slow/stop&go traffic. I've considered the Cromeit heat fix but just never felt it was worth the effort.

Maybe some of you guys who have done this mod can tell me...are there any downsides to the Cromeit heat fix?? Does the bike run hotter? Can anyone compare this heat fix to the Baker air wing fix?

Brazos, I didn't do the Cromeit heat fix on mine for the first year I had the bike and thought it was OK without it. Warm but OK.

then one day I got the urge and did the left side fix only and I then kicked myself for a while for not having done it sooner.

It really does make a noticeable difference in the left side heat, which is important when you live in Houston.

No negative side affects from doing the fix on my '05 FJR and my bike does not run hotter. Do it.

Left side on my 05 ABS reduced heat by 80%. Removed inner panel. Right side reduced heat by 50%

P.S. I'm riding in Southern Arizona where temps reach 115, so this fix is well worth it for me.

I did the left side also and noticed a definite improvement. Have not done the right side. By the way what happened to the Baker wings? I thought the company was going to develop brackets but nothing on their website.

That's an interesting question you pose.....I'd like to hear the answer to that one, too as that's a mod I actually may consider.

I did a sort of lazy Chromeits fix. I used a piece of aluminum angle that was the correct size. Cut it to fit and match up to the vents that are through the frame. Seemed to work pretty good and did not take but a few minutes.

IIRC, they just never could get a design that worked and was easy to make....and was inexpensive enough.

I have auxiliary lights and cut & drilled some 3/4" X 1/8" aluminum pieces and made my own brackets. I used the Baker "hand wings" and they work very well. If you don't have auxiliary lights, coming up with a bracket might be "interesting".
