Changing the Battery

Been trying to search for this but can't find anything right to the point.

How do I change the battery? I've got an '05.

Step 1: I found it.

Step 2: I bought another one

Then I took off the two black panels (panels C & D on some diagrams somewhere...)

Looks like I have to remove part of the fairing. Do I need to take off the mirror? Anything else I need to be aware of?

I'm not terribly mechanically inclined, but am actually trying to do this for some reason.

I've also figured out to remove, take off (-) first, then (+). Reverse putting it in.

Colin, unless something has changed from 04 to 05 You just have to remove the clamp held by the allen head screw.

Tilt it out and down, then tilt the battery out and it should come right up.

Correct, no need to remove any fairing, just the C and D panels. Loosen hold down strap, tilt to clear upper fairing; comes right out.

Thanks guys. I haven't loosened the strap yet, didn't look like it would tilt....

anyway, will give this a go tonight.
