Mark Dieck update:
Ride Now Powersports of Las Vegas has quasi-stepped up to the plate for us.

Mark happened to catch the Service Manager in the store, even though they are not open on Monday. On the positive side, they have a full Ignition Switch Recall kit in stock, so they have the parts in hand. The bummer is, they won't work on it until tomorrow.

The Service Manager went out in his pickup, grabbed Mark and the FJR1300, and brought them both to the dealership. So that's cool.
Glad to hear it. This news could have been better, but at least he's getting it fixed. Just imagine if there were NO Parts for it in LV. Yikes!

That is good to hear. Whomever the other rider is, I'm glad he/she is OK no matter what the cause of being out of the rally. We will find out further news as available. Any speculations would not be helpful I imagine right now.

Actually, if you are running a stock tank under 7 gallons, you are not required to keep a fuel log, so there is a paperwork benefit.Warchild probably know for sure, but I think there were around 6 or 7 bikes without fuel cells at the start.

FWIW, Bob Hall won in 2001 without a fuel cell.
I knew Bob, he worked around the corner from me when he lived in the Akron OH area. He had to keep fuel receipts in that rally. He said that was the worse part of the ride to Deadhorse, then to Alabama. He had to keep track of 33 (maybe he said 36) fuel receipts. No GPS for navigation. Pretty much a box stock RT. 2 years later he showed up with a fuel cell, but the RT quit.

Be careful what you speculate. I am pretty sure that Haybus is the chariot of the Benevolent Dictator of this site:)

I was pretty certain the eye-a-buser pic was of the bald one's steed, but that doesn't make the statement any less accurate: the eye-a-buser IS likely guilty -- it's certain to have an abnormal amount of miles on it.

Outstanding news from Mark Dieck!

He is TOTALLY hooked up!!!

The Service Writer for Ride Now Powersports, Marcus Daly, called in one of their Service Technicians, Robbie Howe, to perform the Ignition Recall on Mark's 2007 FJR. It is complete!!

Technician Robbie Howe is out on the final test ride right now! :D

MARK DIECK - back on the road!!!!!

Well, color me confused. I thought the honorable Bene Dict was on a 2X.
He sold both of them -- first the '00 ("Night train") to get the silver '02 and then the '02 after he'd used it for the infamous BBG week . . . after saying the eye-abuser would never be a LD bike for him! I know it is hard to keep up, but at least he puts 6 figures worth of miles on them before changing underwear bikes.

That's awesome! It's nice to hear about a dealer going above and beyond. If nothing else, it's great PR...

Good. I now have a favorable feeling about that dealer.

IRT RideNow Powersports hooking up Mark:

In the past I know there have been (and continue to be) some heart-warming stories of BMW dealers going "above and beyond" to assist BMW owners/riders. Now I think it can be said that Yamaha has a great network of dealers, too.

Good job, RideNow of Las Vegas!!

:good:

I have cross posted info about Mark's "rescue" over on a local LV forum I am a member of in an effort to let RideNow know how much we (FJR owners, rally fans/participants/volunteers) appreciate their efforts.

Do you get any benefit or penalty for NOT having the auxillary cell?no required fuel log. i don't remember if you get some points for keeping one when it's not required, but it may.
No extra bonus for keeping the fuel log. You still have to keep receipts and keep track of them (I lost one in '03 doh!) Also, it's under 7 gallons period: I had a min-cell (2 gallons) in 03 giving me a total capacity of 6.5 gallons so I did not have to keep a log.

glad to hear mark is rolling again.

Now correct me if im wrong; Isn't it possible to completely bypass the ignition switch by cutting 4 wires and using 2 wire nuts?

Dealers like this need some special recognition or Gold dealer award or sumpin. If anyone goes in there, thank them for all us LD addicts.
