Interesting ... I hope they can find a way to succeed where so many others have failed. I'll certainly be following their progress toward a 2011 launch.

While I definitely like some things that I read about this platform - 6-speed tranny, chain-drive, 525 lbs - I am fearful of the eventual pricing of this bad boy. It'll likely be Beemer-costly, if not more, particularly using components from Marchesini, Ohlins, Brembo, etc

Still... it looks pretty dag-gone interesting.

Although, if someone were going to do it right, it's Pratt & Miller.

This motor allegedly has a 11.5:1 compression ratio, and will feature the next generation of fuel delivery, known as gasoline direct injection—GDI. This is injection of the fuel directly into the combustion chamber, after the air intake event is over. This technology is feature in Cadillac's new CTS V-Six engine.

Looks very nice, but why carbon fiber covers? I realize to save a couple pounds, but a hamfisted tightening will be expensive. And the cost of the bike goes up every time a CF part is put on. Is there a technical advantage to using CF in that application?

 
In the initial pics, it definitely has interest.

However, the sleekness of an FJR or C10 or SprintST seems to be lost.

More a ST1300 with stick outs.

 
Details are few, but this comment from the MOTUS website may be telling?: "...V4 engine with a scandalous exhaust note."

Given the old-fashioned 'half a push-rod V-8', one may wonder where their engineering priorities lie?

With their target 150 hp, and the pushrod-tube restricted head design, the 1650cc displacement may not be big enough?

Trying not to sound like a 'nay-sayer' ("just the facts, ma'm") -- the, thoroughly modern, Ford GT V-8 achieved 100 hp/liter (with the addition of a twin-screw supercharger). I think MOTUS may be hard-pressed to find competitive horsepower with such dated technology and only natural aspiration.

May be a nice bike, tho -- just-the-same? :unsure:

Pretty exciting to see this company come around and be so close to home. I expect these guys will build next to Mr. Barber in Irondale. That will bring even more sport tourning folks to the area. That's good. :)

Looks to me like the proverbial answer to a question nobody asked.
Kinda like what people were saying about the Sport Touring market in 1999-2000.

I mean...er...uhm...there was BMW's RT, the ST1100 and the Kawasaki Concours. Eveybody KNEW there just "room" for another purpose built ST bike to compete with the established production models and those GT and "naked" bikes owners had added soft or hard cases. :unsure:

 
I think with 1650 ccs they'll be able to make enough torque to propel the bike as well as you'd want. Hell, people are happy with the power the Buell Ulysses makes and there's no way this'll have less.

What gets me is the exploded view of the engine. I don't know if it's just a quick demo toy done by someone who's a lot better at graphics than engine design or what the deal is, but I can't see why it'd have a 90º (or 270º) crank on a 90º V4, and if you look at the larger version (it's on thekneeslider.com) the cam looks like it has the same timing on the intake and exhaust. :) The cam thing I can dismiss as being lazy making the drawing, but the crank is weird.

From 'SockMonkey's linked site (thanks 'SM'): "Motus revealed last night that, rather than the 140bhp/120lb-ft figures initially disclosed, the engine actually makes 160bhp and an as-yet undisclosed amount of torque."

From the same (linked) site: "...the KMV4 phases its crankpins at 75°, creating a big-bang-like firing sequence."
