Is Lolo Pass road even ride-able? Last time I was on that road was years ago, but in a 4WD, it was entertaining. I would love to do this ride, but have an appointment that will keep me busy until 1030ish. I am looking to go ride after that.

Went out and rode to Bridge of the Gods with some friends. Great ride, lots of snow on the hills. Ran into a nice group of people at the Cape Horn Overlook on SR 14 just before 1:30 pm. Beautiful ride. Sorry I missed your ride BluFJR.

Sorry I missed your ride BluFJR.
It turned out to be a little more eventful I went down on Bald Peak Rd. Just before the turn at Meiott Rd, on the straigt section. Course SAND.. Event took a nano second. No broken bones, no head trama, sore ankle, knee and shoulder. One day at ?Emanual Hosp. over night to monitor pain. Been home for two days,''

An eventful ride I guess, Ken. Glad to read that you're OK with only minor bumps and such.

Were you on the new or old FJR and how bad is the bike?

Oh crap!

Stop that crashing shit, will yah!

It makes the PNW look bad, and we have a rep to uphold!

uhh,

oh,

so, ok,

I'm not PNW by residence, but..

some of my best friends are, really!

Glad to hear you are not too busted up! ;)

Notice my replys are small, as the left shoulder hurts a lot and I make a lot of mistakes with that hand. 6-8weeks and I should be good. I expect to ride in 4-6 weeks depending on strength in left side. The bike was ridden up on my trailer. My wife went to pick it up at the towing garage and the tow guy started it up and road it right up on the trailer. helped her and a friend tie it down and she took it to my favorite shop: Michael Cardenas motor sports in Tualitin, Mirror gone, right upper broker, lower scratched up, slider bent but no dmg to engine, break beddel toast, water gug holder scratched up but saved other parts, turn signal scratched up and right exhausp pipe scratched. will be lookin g for all thos parts.

Clothing: Helmet toast, as least 6-8 feet of road rash, right shoulder on first gear 3/4 jack toreup, keen and lowers tore up on pants and boots are damaged. They cut the jacket off and saved the heated liner. saved the gloves too.

It hurts to do the computer stiff or else I would shw pics.

Ride Report with not too much fun, Just posting for fun and pictures:

I went down on Bald Peak "Rd near the Park at the top of thehill. I didn't stop at the park butrode past it going North. Shortlyafter passing the park I passed two bicyclists on the right just before thefirst curve. MY guess is that I wasdoing 40mpg and maybe slowed to 30-35 while passing giving the cyclist plentyof room. The road was dry and prettyclean from gravel etc. After clearingthe next corner the gravel increased but there were clear tire paths. The road had some small bends but you couldsee through them to where it clearly made a strong left. With the gravel I was setting up for theleft hand turn marked 15mph, which also came together in a "T" with MelottRd. Prior to the turn is a slight right(no speed marking). This is where thefront wheel just seamed to have whipped out from under the bike withoutwarning. This section of road had moregravel on it and I was making note as to whether to notify Dale Allin, butthought that our general notes regarding end of winter gravel still being onthe road and all should be careful would be enough. Seemingly at that instance I was down rubbing my helmet onpavement thinking first and foremost, I was rubbing my helmet on the asphaltand that I hadn't done any quick movements or excessive braking to make thishappen. It just happened. The GPS pinpoint the point where the bikestopped, just before the turn and says that I had completed 181.7 miles of my251 mile ride. Average speed 25.6, movingspeed 36.4, Max. speed 73 on I-84.

That morning I rode up to Sandy by the back roads like SETen Eyck Rd and east on Marmot Rd. which climbed above 1000 feet where I wasrunning into snow and ice in the shaded sections and I was getting to the end ofthe farms, so the tree lined roads were going to become more common, so I founda nice barn to take a picture of and then turned around and went back to Sandy.

I have to admit that going down surprised me as I was ridingvery carefully, taking no chances, meaning I was riding slow, smooth and beingvery watchful for shade, wet, ice and gravel, and therefore having the bike tojust zip out from under me was a surprise. I received bruising no worse than falling off a bicycle going about thesame speed. Maybe a mild concussion byusing my head as a point of contact. Ilove my Nolan Trilogy 43 helmet and will replace it with exactly the same makeand model. They cut off my jacket, aFirst Gear Kilimanjaro unit that has worked very well and never leaked, myCortec Ventura pants only suffered a few small rips at the knee and a scrap atthe hip, my gloves are missing, must be with the bike but the heated liners areperfect. They saved my warm and safejacket liner but cut off the wool sweater and the Nike thermal tops. They removed my socks and pulled off my LDComfort long johns. Since I didn'tappear to have any leg trauma, they were thoughtful. One of the paramedics' rode CBR600 so he may have taken just acouple of seconds to recommend removal verse cutting. I thanked him for his thoughtfulness. They kept asking me the same questions over and over, my brainwas always saying to myself "they just asked me that", most likely it made myanswers come out slower. Next time Iwill answer before they ask (wink).

I'm writing this because I think it is a good reminder thatbeing safe and doing things right will save you most all the time, but therewill come a time when even doing the right things and being safe that there isstill a possibility that something can go wrong and down you will go. The gear that you wear will come into playat that time just as it does when you make a mistake. In my case the padded shoulder, knee and good boots most likelyplayed a part in why I have no abrasions and minimal trauma. So other than that, it was a nice sunny daywith mostly good roads and I was out riding and having fun. I will see you on the road in a few weekstrying to pick up my Big Money, Dam Tour and Grand Tour checkpoints. This ride wasn't associated with any ofthose, just having fun on an unusual sunny day.

Just saw this Ken. Knock that shit off right now  . Glad you are healing and the scooter will get fixed. See ya on the road.

Jeez Ken, this is a bit upsetting. Very glad to know you're already planning you next ride. No one should be surprised that's the case.

Maybe, when some time has passed, you'll see things that aren't so obvious now with regard to what brought you down. No matter what, it's good to know you're up and at it. Take care for sure and we'll be looking forward to a full recovery.

Thanks for posting this and keeping us alerted to these kinds of possibilities.

Keep Going!

Holy Crap, Ken. Sorry for the late reply. I just saw the posts. I hope you have a fast recovery. I live here in the Couve as well, and I have a full sized pickup, let me know when you need to get your bike and I will help if I can. Luckily you at least got some riding in before the bad stuff. I am here to help if you need it. Also, Cycle Gear does military discounts, so I can help you pick up some new gear if you decide to go that route. Take care.

BTW, nice pics. What camera do you use?

So, how are you fairing Ken? Healing at all? Get the bike working yet? Been busy with work and not a lot of time to look through the forums. Hope all is well. Again, let me know if you need any help.

I rode to Issaquah and Auburn today. I rode around the Olympic Peninsula. Hurts to ride. Maybe it will stop hurting soon.??? 300 miles and my brain is tired, and I want to scream. Other than that, I feel great, as long as I don't mow the lawn or do any work at all, I feel pretty good. Pills help.

Thanks for asking.

I was just thinking about you the other day and was wondering how you are doing. So it's good to hear you are healing and even got out to ride despite the pain.

I know you mentioned the bike was at the shop but if you will be doing some of the repairs yourself and need an extra hand let me know.

Take care,

Jon...

Ken, today was the first I have heard about your little mishap. I am so sorry and have ridden enough with you to know this incident was inadvertent and not a result of carelessness. I am so sorry that it happened and all of the pain you have suffered and are still suffering. The best to you and hope to see you this summer. We will be leaving for Oregon in two weeks.

Jer

Look forward to riding with you and seeing you again. I scheduled the Volcano Ride for June 24th. I will still do a ride that day even if the 25 and 99 roads are closed. Maybe a ride to Trout Lake for pie and then on to Glenwood, etc. Hope you can make one of these.
