I had my ammeter out playing with a new V1 I bought....and thought I'd measure some actual amperages. I figured my newer V1 would be a bit more miserly with electrons than the really old Passport 7500 I have, but was a bit surprised the inverse was true.

Passport 7500S

.17 amps start-up (2.4 watts @ 12.5 volts)

.14 amps steady (2.0 watts)

V1 Unit Only (6 years old)

.40 amps start-up (5.7 watts)

.25 amps steady (3.6 watts)

V1 Unit (6 years old) plus Remote Display and Remote Audio

.42 amps start-up (6.0 watts)

.28 amps steady (4.0 watts)

V1 Unit (New) plus Remote Display and Remote Audio

.40 amps start-up (5.7 watts)

.29 amps steady (4.1 watts)

Garmin Street Pilot 2730

.39 amps @ "Agree" screen with screen at 100% luminance

.15 amps @ "Agree" screen with screen at 0% luminance

Garmin Street Pilot 2820

.38 amps @ "Agree" screen with screen at 100% luminance

.15 amps @ "Agree" screen with screen at 0% luminance

Sorry, but I don't have a connector convenient for my 478.

Radar detectors utilize a signal mixer that is a superhytrodyne, the sensitivity of the mixer is related to the power of the mixer. More sensitivity usually includes more current into the mixer. Which is the longest possible way to say that modern high sensitivity radar detectors will use more current than older less sensitive detectors. :dribble:

I have used my clamp-on amp probe to profile my motorcycle's electrical system. If you have a starting problem there is no better tool to sort it out.

Thanks. Good to know. Just added a Fuzeblock to the 09 and am in the process of farkling. Fuzeblock is limited to 30 total amps. So I am starting to add stuff up. My Passport came with a 1 amp fuse, the Garmin power cord came with a 2a fuse.
