Here's a shameless plug for Sunnyside (edit: Now located in nearby Prosser, WA, call sign "Desert Valley Powersports" here.). This is a solid recommendation for any FJR traveler to stop by this dealership when on the Pacific NW road, or considering a purchase, or needing advice. Great riding in this vicinity, as well!

They have been an FJR powerhouse from the beginning, providing quality work from the time FJRs hit the USA shores. This dealership has provided several 'open house' sessions to allow FJR owners to better understand the maintenance and farkling of this bike. This has enabled me to do many routine items myself, and for the first time in my life, pay attention to a maintenance schedule! (What a concept--dealer provides owners indepth information, owners take better care of bike, enjoy and ride more, and buy more items to properly maintain the machine.) They routinely sponsor the FJR annual rallies.

I buy my tires and parts through them by contacting Guru Glen directly by phone.

FJR Goodies You get some excellent prices there, and the right parts, manuals, etc. This dealer knows the FJR--When you call Glen he knows zactly what you need, including the nuts and bolt package for the VStrom handguards and other FJR specific items recommended on this board.

They are my local dealer, being only 350-miles away from Boise. :agent:

They did my 26K valve adjust and swing arm / pivot point lube at an excellent price. They diagnose and fix tickers, know about the suspension upgrades and many other farkles. I think Warchild, one of our benevolent dictators of this forum, assists them in assembling new FJRs and is otherwise in cahoots with this fine organization.

They are a model of what a dealership should be, IMO. B)

My '06 is on the way via Sunnyside. So far, totally professional experience.

(If I plug them, too, does that mean I move up the delivery list? :D )

 
Has anyone been able to get them to understand that they need to read their e-mail at least once a week and reply to orders/questions made on line? I really want to like them 100% but for that one thing. They have a web "store" but too often they don't give it the attention they do their FtF and phone customers.

 
I just received my third annual order from Glenn.

I'm never in a rush and tell Glenn to ship everything together because what I need is usually backorderd (like the left engine cover gasket - thanks to Warchild for taking the last one). I'm very pleased with the service I get there. Much better prices than I can find locally here in Worcester.

 
Another shameless plug for Sunnyside. . .

I just had my 2004 out-of-waranty ticker repaired at Sunnyside, paid for by Yamaha. I pre-arranged for the service since I live over 200 miles away from Sunnyside. I Dropped my FJR off on Friday afternoon and received a phone call the following Wednesday afternoon to be informed that the repair work was done and all I needed to do was come in and pick up the bike. That repair eliminated the ticking noise and the bike feels as if the power is up a tad. :yahoo: Additionally, the bike was pretty dirty and the front brake was a bit mushy when I dropped it off, but when I picked it up it was clean and the front brake was noticeably more firm, even though I never requested such service, all at no cost to me. :D Also, every single one of the staff there was very friendly and willing to provide whatever assistance they could without being overbearing.

Another experience I had with Sunnyside was that I mail ordered a front tire from them a couple of months ago. They actually took the time to cut and modify an FMF exhaust cardboard box to ship my tire in. Everywhere else I've ordered tires from just shipped the tire(s) without any kind of protection.

Bottom line. . .Sunnyside Motorcycle Company = Exceptional Quality of Work and Service. B)

 
Have to say I agree with Sunnyside being an excellent dealership - Both Dan and Pat were very helpful on Saturday when I picked up the '06 - Warchild happened to be there and also gave me some good pointers.

Sounds like they hope to sponsor another tech clinic this fall at their new location.

 
Just a note that I called up to make a tire appointment and they're now in the process of moving down the road about 14 miles to Prosser to their brand new building. That's good news for us folks living in Tri-Cities as it's a bit closer for us to go for this fine establishment.

I'm not sure what they'll do about a name change, but you can bet I'll write-up in a new thread my first experience in their new digs. They said they should be up and going by December 15.

 
Sweet. Last time I was up there, I got the scoop on the new digs. Sounds like it will be worth the ride up from Portland just to see the new place. Huge and completely oriented to motorcyclists in every way is how I would describe the plans I heard. Oh, and a fancy, one of a kind urinal was in design. Can't forget about that. :D

Made my first visit and purchase today at the new Desert Valley Powersports in Prosser, WA. As some may know it moved down the road about 25 miles closer my home of The Tri-Cities and is much, much nicer.

I pulled up and spotted this FJR on a trailer and shouted at the two nutjobs (members of this board) ratcheting it down, "Hey! Is that one of those BM-Double-Yas?"

As I walked through the door, the owner, Dan Denchel, was there and looked like a proud new father!

What struck me is how HUGE the place is. Dan's gonna have to sell a lot of bikes to pay the heating bill for this place. Anybody spot the forum members "posing" for the camera?

They still have some weeks of work to do as Dan pointed out to me dozen of different things, but it's clear this place is functional and open for business. I took in an Avon I had actually bought from them some months before and had it swapped. $23 and I wasn't even done snapping other photos before it was finished. Could it be related to the giant and well lit shop?

The bathroom lights were out at the time, so this shot is in pitch black with a flash. Doesn't do it justice, but I can say confidently that the Men's bathroom is going to be a signature piece of this dealership and get more traffic from women than the women's room!

Please tell me that's not the urinal... :unsure:

It is indeed.... look at the tile rocks that are shaped as "feet" (complete with toes!) approx 6"-8" this side of the drain. When one steps there, chlorinated water automagically emerges out of the rocks to wash the man-liquid away. The chlorinated water flows as long as someone stands on those two "feet" and continues for a good 20 seconds afterward. So the liquid you see against the rocks is chlorinated water.... :eek:

Pretty wild stuff from the normally sedate and reserved Dan Denchel.... :lol:

My wife's R6 and my FJR both had recalls. Ron arranged for Mike the tech to be there on a Satureday, to repair both bikes. We live in Baker city, OR, this was a great help to me, I did not have to make two trips 200 miles oneway. Mike answered my questions and knows what he is doing. A big THANK YOU to the (now) Derest valley power sports guys. Enjoy the ride, we are:} Jim & Penny in Baker City, OR

I called desert valley powersports today about the ECU recall, not only did they know about it they allready had one on the shelf with my name on it. HOWS THAT FOR SERVICE.

I'm not surprised. Those guys rock. It's a few hours away, but I prefer to do as much biz there as I can. I plan to buy my red FJR there someday...

Yep exactly my sentiment as well...no reply or answer to my mail...makes me wonder if the online biz is just an afterthought to them?

Not sure how you managed to take my quote out of context (from two years ago!), but ya did. I'll be clear - Desert Valley (a.k.a. Sunnyside) is tops in my book.

Another plug. DVP is 184 miles from my place, but the only place I trust for work on the bike. Just did the valve check there yesterday. Less than 1/2 the price I was quoted on this side of the mountains.

New service manager, Tom, comes from Idaho and is nothing short of professional and accommodating. Dan seems to be able to find the best employees. Look forward to the next Tech-West day later this month.

A happy camper, even though I ended up spending a whole lot more than originally planned :confusedsmiley:

 
I had a front tire puncture last week about 25 miles south west of Ukiah, Oregon. Nursed the bike with my on board compressor back to John Day, our ride HQ. I decided to make a run for Desert Valley Powersports in Prosser, Wa. to get a new tire. I pulled in there at about 4:00pm on a Thursday, and told the parts guy my problem. They had my tire in stock [PR2], and had it spooned on and balanced within 1 hour. I had time to book a room at the Best Western beside the shop, and my bike was waiting. The guys were proffesional, straight forward, prices fair, work was good.

There are alot worse places to go that this shop. I live 1000 miles away, and this is now my main Yamaha shop for buying Yamaha stuff.

Just got home from picking up my new 08AE from the great guys in Prosser Wa. Of course a killer deal never hurts, but you guys make buying a new bike so much fun I wish I could do it every day. :yahoo: (Maybe in my next life I'll be a Bill Gates) As one who has spent the last 37 years working in a new car dealership I am quite aware of just how difficult it can be to create the perfect buying experience. For my money (several times now in fact) no one does it better than Dan and his crew. A much deserved special mention for Pat, Tony, Steve and Glen. Thanks again guys.
