Don,

Do you have links to a photo report from a previous Dolomites trip? Maybe I could fool my wife and tell her it is a long delayed 25th anniversary wedding anniversary trip!

hmmm... the wheels are turning.

Is that a snapshot of Silver Penguin on her new ride?

I would like to do any of these rides. I think #3 would be my first choice. Who's going to help me convince my wife that she has to stay home to earn the money to pay for it while I'm riding around Europe?

Well, personally, I like the first ride. But after Don told my wife the roads would scare the heck out of her with the thousand foot+ sheer drop offs, she got cold feet. But then, after following Don's link to his 2007 trip that showed the many cool places they stopped at, my wife once again said she'd like to go.

So I guess which ever trip is decided upon will be fine with us. My wife and I have not yet been to Europe, so any place sounds great. Besides, what we don't see this trip will require another trip the following year.

As long as no planes get blown out of the air between now and the time we go, I think my wife will go along.

https://www.roadmc.com/default.asp?pub=0&am...b=6&labb=US Brother Dan, My apologies if I scared Madeline describing Passo di Stelvio (Stilfser Joch auf Deutsch) to her, Stelvio Pass will be the toughest ascent we do. Here is a nice video of Timmelsjoch, a much easier pass and one of my favorites. I do still get goose bumps and stomach butterflies riding Stelvio!

Click on Italy, then click on Timmelsjoch. Also, click on Grand Bernard as we will be riding that pass also. Fantastic M/C riding.

Dan, also click on Switzerland videos. If we go with Option #1, we'll also be riding Bernina, Furka and Susten passes!

Also click on Alpe di Sidal. This is known to me by its name in German: Penserjoch. This pass is en Italia.

https://www.alpineroads.com/images/photos/e...er/stilfser.htm Awesome view looking up Stelvio will take your breath away!

Ha, Ha; Guten Morgen Alfred, Wie gehts? My mistake, not enough morning coffee yet! Those beautiful passes are en Schweiz!

Correction to Big-D & others: Penserjoch, known as Alpe di Sidal in Italian, is in Italy. As we get closer, I'll create a route map.

Alfred, my Friend: If the group consensus is Option #1 for the Alps, and so far that's been the overwhelming response, you absolutely will be seeing our group. With your kind permission, I'll be picking your brain for potential lodgings in your area.

Also, I'll be asking assistance from Stef and Sergeant Hook for their input on lodgings on Italian side of things. I know Austria!

No problemo, I can find reasonable lodging just about anywhere in Switzerland, plus a friend of mine knows awesome roads im Schwarzwald and some pretty good insider routes within Switzerland. There are some absolutely fantastic rides in Switzerland being neglected because everybody wants to ride the famous passes; especially around the Rhone Valley (Canton Valais), around Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) and the Jura region.

Alfredo

I am late responding to this, but I would vote #1 also.

I have been/go to Europe fairly regular (every yr or so) but haven't ridden a motorcycle there since ~'94iirc, and that was a HD I rented out of Frankfurt.

The only "wait and see" situation I have is that where I work the program we're on is ending later this year and as of right now, I am not sure if I'll still have a job, and if so, where I'll be and for how much. But, this should all be resolved by the time we need to make the reservations at the end of this year.

Never been to the Dolomites; have ridden the Alps some, but that was on the beefy HD I rented. Would be great to go with some folks and do some good riding! Count me in per the above caveat...
