SW-FOG 2011 "Update"

There has been discussion concerning holding it during the week or again on a weekend. I am currently working with Cheryl at the Best Western Kachina Lodge on good room rates and other goodies such as Free Breakfast each day, Bike Wash, Drink deals and such. Once I will have all of the details I will post them and ask our illustrious leader GalaxyBlue to Pin the thread.
The dates in question right now are September 6th, 7th & 8th (Tue, Wed & Thur), 2011 and September 9th, 10th & 11th (Fri, Sat & Sun). I have received both positive and negative responses concerning these dates.
So PLEASE, if you have $.02 cents you'd like to add, now is the time. IM me your comments!!! Labor Day weekend is out because the cost of rooms skyrocket!
The decision to have the SW-FOG at the Best Western Kachina Lodge again is being based on several factors; receiving many requests from attendees, great accommodations and customer service from all of the staff there, weather and road conditions and the location being perfectly located so as to attract riders from all over. I do want everyone to be aware there are a few other motorcycle rallies being held the weekend of Sept 9-11 also in Taos, such as, the New Mexico BMW's, the New Mexico Triumph Club and another large (all makes & models) group that call themselves the "Band of Brothers". So Taos, NM will be inundated with a variety of motorcycles that weekend. I think it could make it all that more interesting. I know many wanted Colorado, but the somewhat unpredictable weather, high room rates and lack of facilities large enough to house our group along the western slope made Colorado difficult.
Last year, I requested that 25 rooms be held in reserved for us. But we ended up filling 44 rooms. So this year we are starting with 40 rooms and work from there. Smoking rooms will be available upon request.

You changed the name of the city this year?....
Couldn't make this year's edition, but I'd love to see Taos. Or Toas. Or whatever it is.

SacramentoMike, would love to see you ride to Taos/Toas; your first and last drink are on your Papa Chuy Viejo. Old Michael is not much of a drinker, not completely convinced he's an Irishman!

As SW-FOG Ride Leader, Big-D is SW-FOG Rally Master, I am pushing for September 6 through 9, Tuesday through Friday, to be the dates of SW-FOG 2011.
Here's my reasoning: By making this a mid-week Rally, we can encourage Attendance from far away with only a 4 day expenditure of vacation from work.
Using the top link as an example, that derelict senile old slug RadioHowie could ride less than 600 miles a day and still easily make it to Taos in 3 days.
All of those Mooks from both sides of The Great Lakes could make it in a three days ride. Western Canadian Provinces are only 2-750 days, if sober!

September 6 through 9, Tuesday through Friday would be great for me! I enjoyed the rides you lead in Toas for SW-FOG 2010 and am looking forward to SW-FOG 2011.

I like the mid-week idea
FJR Guys and Gals, The overwhelming response is to have SW-FOG 2011 in the mid-week after Labor Day, the primary reasons we are receiving in PM's, e-mails and phone calls are: 1) Only using up four days from work, but winding up with nine motorcycling days. 2) Having SAT-SUN-MON as traveling days to Taos, New Mexico and FRI-SAT- SUN as return days from "The Land of Enchantment" is allowing a lot more riders from further distances out to attend SW-FOG 2011.
Plus, the "old timers" who attended SW-FOG 2010 are in strong agreement that we were treated extremely well by the Management and Staff of the Best Western Kachina Lodge Taos. I mean, come on; how many establishments would have allowed Old Michael and Bungie to pole dance wearing thongs (pink for Mick and puce for Steve) on the Courtyard Patio next to the swimming pool, without kicking us out on our ears for that nasty performance! Not to mention what HotRodZilla and Miss Dolly the Sheep (Bust's Girlfriend) were doing in the bushes!!!

Looks like mid-week is looking good. Retired guys like BeemerDon and I can pretty much go whenever. Trying to get New Mexico to cut the mountain down below 3500 feet so Fairlaner will be able to show up on his new Connie is not working out well! The Kachina Inn will offer warm (Irish) milk at the bar to entice OM to return for another year. And hopefully we'll once again have police escorts for those of you that prefer triple digits through 25mph zones!

EOM is happening on the other side of the country, I have a shooting match that I'm not missing again this year, and now we have to stuff SW-FOG into it. I say we move the dates up to August when the kids are still on vacation and we can make it a decent weekend.
FWIW, I'm not a big fan of having it during the week. It's nice that people from far away want to come if it's held mid week, but this is the SW-FOG rally, not the ride from as far away as possible and lets make it difficult for people who are close to actually make the ride. I'll have to go from zero vacation days to taking three or four.
Personally, I don't think that's a good trade off, and may just stay home this year.
AND Roadrunner...I hear you man...There are some issues, but I am working on them. You're the last one standing.

Why sure, if the date worked out and something didn't come up. I already have events happening that I can't be it both places at the same time.
