The bike has already made it to Buenos Aires, Argentina and he is prepping it now for the Race Start on January 1. 2012 Dakar Rally Argentina
There are some cool videos and lots of info already available on the site.
I met some guys from around here that were in Argentina with their own bikes and followed the rally as spectators last year. They had to camp out just like the competitiors and a lot of cool stories. Spectating at the Dakar is one of my Bucket List items.

As much as I like Husky I had to throw my support (and a little money) to Ned Suesse this year. Heard about him through a podcast and felt compelled by his motivation. Right now he is waiting for his late ship to come in carrying his KTM and race support. US coverage sucks on this race so I'm contemplating buying into a virtual private network (VPN) to get access to the Euro coverage.
Oh yeah, I needed a bunch of luggage for the DR650 for Alaska and the 30% off deal on Wolfman stuff as a Ned race supporter sealed the deal.

Ian- Thanks for the help on the name change, and i didnt realize till just now that you authored that video of Bill! :doh I'm a little slow on the uptake, occasionally
THere has been some confusion at the ports, getting the bikes for some competitors off of the boats and out of customs... Bills bike was not one of them, but all his spares were in a delayed container with some other guy's bikes.... It looks like everything is finally at Mar Del Plata, though (a mere 600kms from the Buenas Aires port)
They picked up the gps and iritrack and other event supplied navigational equipment and were fitting it to the bike all day yestertday, and today at 4:30pm EST (6:30 local time) they are scheduled to go through Scrutineering.

This photo was taken by Deadly99 (Ted) who is helping out Rally Pan Am as a support team member.
You can see Jonah Street's Yamaha on the far left, and Bill's bike on the right (and Bill! :thumb)
You can always tell Bill's bike by the squared edge gas tank hanging off the left hand side of the bike.
Looks like Bill's bike is the only true Husqvarna in the race. All the other SPeedbrain bikes are the heavily modified RAlly bike versions.

The only one I have is an 83 XC. I couldn't find a picture of it clean...

I owned 4 Huskies over the years. The worst one was my mid 70's WR250 that I broke the frame on in an enduro in Central Ontario. When the frame broke it also derailed and broke the chain and I had to cobble everything back together to get out of the woods before the black bears got me. Back in those days you carried enough tools and parts in your fannypack to build an entire motorcycle.
The best Husky I ever owned was the '84 twin shock waterpumper WR400. I loved that bike and finished 2nd in my class for the enduro series that year.
That's not my bike since mine was never that clean.
I see Rushes had one of those Lojak Milk Trucks.

So Very Sad, the First Day of Dakar Rally and the First Motorcyclist Fatality: Godspeed, Senor Boero.
The death of Argentine rider Jorge Martinez Boero overshadowed the first day of the Dakar Rally in which Chilean Francisco Lopez the motorbikes.
Boero, 38, suffered a heart attack after being badly injured in a fall from his Beta bike 2km from the end of the stage between Mar del Plata and Santa Rosa de la Pampa in the west of Argentina.
He received medical attention within five minutes of the crash but died while being airlifted to hospital.
Boero was the son of a former Argentine racing champion of the same name who died in 2004. In Last year's race he crashed into a ravine in Chile and waited eight hours to be rescued.
His death was the 21st of a competitor in a Dakar Rally.

I had a 390WR that I learned on in the dirt. What an ass kicker of a bike to learn on. I had a hard time keeping the front wheel down on it. My first day on that was very humbling! I always rode on the street and thought I could ride..

A very heartbreaking situation for Bill and Quinn, very happy all is still going well for Ned; I'll start rooting for Ned now, it would be fantastic to see an American win Dakar.
What an incredibly tough, rough and mean motorcycling event Dakar is, it's just beyond my imagination of how strong and gnarly a rider would have to be to handle Dakar.
