Wanted to do a SS1000 on one of my sportbikes, so I chose the 2008 CBR1000RR. It was a wonderful day on the bike. I left my house in Springville, CA at about 0330 gassed up and headed out to the Mojave desert via HWY 58 through Tehachapi, CA. Travelled up HWY 395 through Bishop, Tonopah, and down to Amargosa Valley, NV. AV was my turn around point. Turned the Honda around and rode home. I got home at about 2130. Total miles was 1059. One issue is getting fuel about every 150-160 miles due to the 4.6 gallon tank. Plenty of gas stations along the way, but just have to stop so often. Overall a great ride. Was a little cold in the morning going up the 395 even with Gerbings jacket and heated gloves. Not a lot of wind protection on the CBR. I recently purchased a Saddleman gel seat for the bike and that worked very well. It's a joy riding the roads in Nevada!

I'm planning a SS1000 on my S1000RR this upcoming weekend. That bike starts flashing the low fuel light at between 115 and 125 miles. Looks like the weather should cooperate with my plans.

Oh, my aching knees. In 2008, I sat on a new 1000RR, and it was apparent that it wasn't designed around a 6'3" pilot. I swear, my heels were almost touching my butt cheeks. Pretty cool you could do it on that bike. Congrats.

You get 10% additional points on your Man Card for a SS on a sport bike. Congrats.

I've done a SS1000 on every bike I own, I think you should too. But I only have 2, and I could go 235miles between fuel stops on the TransAlp. What you make up in speed, your losing in fuel stops. it'll make it a busy day i'm guessing, finding fuel stops every hour and a half or less?

Looking to do a SS1000 on the S1000 this weekend. The route will probably be Springville, CA to Flagstaff, AZ. Doug brought up the question whether a documented Iron Butt ride has been done on a BMW S1000RR. Would be cool to be the first. If someone has already done a SS1000 on this bike I could probably choose another ride to certify. A couple of pics of the weapon of choice for this weekend.

That's cool. A SS1000's gotta be an adventure on a sport bike. I'm betting the more frequent stops are welcome.

I like that Cortech set up on that CBR. I actually like that the low pipe stays out of the way and doesn't interfere or try to melt the bags.

I just spent a minute on the IBA list and here is the verdict:

Well I guess I wouldn't be the first to do a SS1000 on S1000. Ok, well maybe a Bun Burner 1500 or SS2000.

I didn't see any S1000's on the Bun Burner 1,500 list.

To answer your question about the Escort Sharif, at the track I regularly ride - Willow Springs in Rosamond, CA - they have a speed limit and I don't want another speeding ticket!

Well...Had breakfast with Sportrides and his friend this morning as they were burning through Albuquerque, headed back to California. They are well on their way to making good time on a SS2000. From California, to Tucumcari NM, and back.

Those Beemers and the riders didn't look too much worse for the wear. I guess we'll see what another 800 miles does to them.
