Ducati Monster wannabe maybe, but more practical and at a bargain price. Harleys aren't even in the same species. VFRs are V-4 powered, not twins, apples and oranges.

I think all Hondas with a VF or VFR designation were V-fours. BTW, I owned a Magna (VF750) that was a great bike, wish I hadn't sold it.

I had one as well, a 94. It would be a good bike for Honda to revive, only with FI and better brakes next time around.

Only thing that really bothered me was how difficult it was to sync the carbs (screw access) or to re-install them after pulling them off.

These are kinda similar to cartridge emulators but do not require the complete disassembly of the fork tube to install.
Just remove the fork tube from the bike, take off end cap, drain oil, remove spring, then insert Intiminator, then spring, washer, and spacer.
You must shorten the spacer to get the correct spring pre-load due to the added length of the Intiminator.
I first read about these over at www.sv-rider.com and also on the adventure rider forum.
sv-rider forum still has a member discount for them.

The front end on the SV now rolls smoothly over bumps and feels more in control in corners.
With the combination of the ZX-10 rear shock and the Intiminators my '04 SV-650s finally rides and handles like it should.

This is my wife's 2001 SV650. Since this photo was taken we have added an Ohlin's shock and had GP suspension put the internals of GSXR750 into the forks and machined the caps to allow for preload and rebound adjusters.

And here I am learning how to use the new suspenion at Zalusky Advanced Riding School.

Incidentally, since we're talking about Magna's .. wifey had a 1995 VF750 prior to the SV650 which she regrets selling:

It's blue because I crashed it once and had to repaint it. Cobra slipons with a K&N and the DRP jet-kit - this bike really hauled ass. Suspension left a lot to be desired, and when she was ready to move improve her skills the bike was holding her back, so we got her the SV. She does great on the track, and the instructors have pulled me aside to tell me to "ride like her" because she's doing things (body position, head swivel, etc) right. Turns out her main mental block with street riding is sand/gravel in the corners so she doesn't use the SV as intended. Whenever a Magna pops up on Craigslist ... she harbors dreams of finding another.
Hmmm... Imagine if Honda put out a new VF1200C as their answer to the VMax ?? Hmm... nah, will never happen as most of the profits for Honda are in selling 150cc bikes in China, India and Indonesia.
