FJRF003.1: Ignition Switch

Mine goes in for the fix this Saturday morning. Should have it back that afternoon!

Thanks to this forum I was the one who alerted the dealer about the recall. They called me to set up the appointment as soon as it became official.

My dealer (Del Amo Motorsports) finally found the recall (I had to call them several times). Part is on order and will be here shortly. Hopefully I won't have any issues riding out there for the install (70 mile trip).

Probably derailing this thread but.....

I'd use the guys over in Marina Del Ray instead. Del Amo are a bunch of posers. PM me for details if needed

I just talked with the service tech at our local Yamaha dealer. He said that the next time I bring the bike in for servicing, they will be required to do the ignition recall work. This is unfortunate for me, since I hardwired a relay into the harness along with other ignition switch repair work. So I will be losing the relay (had to repair it before the Brodie harnesses were available). Guess I will be making up a Brodie harness (or buying one from him if I get lazy).

Just a heads up for those that did their own relay install before the Brodie harnesses were out.

I'm probably going to want to install this myself. Are there any issues with installing a recall item yourself, like as far as warranty goes or whatever?

My dealer called me today and told me there was a recall on the switch, stated it neede to be fixed because it was a fire hazard what?? , anyway he's going to order the part and let me know when it comes in so to have it fixed, I asked if it was something I could wait on and he said it should only take about a hour ?

The only issue is they won't let you do it. They will insist on you bringing it in so they can "get it right". Especially as this is a Safety Recall with certain liability baggage.

God, if that's page 10 I can only imagine what 1-9 contain. Anything about a "ticking noise" in there?

LOL, nothing about a ticking noise. This is page 10 of the Tech Recall our dealership got. The other 9 pages are just instructions on what to do and how to file the recall info with Yamaha.

Not likely. They are going to want to do the whole job.

But it's always worth asking if that's what you'd prefer...

Instructions that say to replace just the electrical bottom half of the switch, not the whole switch including the mechanical key part and to replace the drilled out security screws with new security screws?

Shadow ,, don't they have the steering wheels and the handle bars on the wrong side over there ??

No mate, from where I am sitting you have all your controls on the wrong side.

Is the throttle on the right side or the left side on your bikes?

I'll echo your desire for facts over speculation.

However, there ain't yet any facts (at least on the switch particulars). I'm sure they will be posted when they are available.

Until then, a huge thanks to BulletBrad for promptly providing whatever facts he finds. He is taking some of the speculation out of it.
