So I bought a Smuggler from a board member for a good price, he sent it to Gary (Garauld) via FedEX for a proper paint match, so far so good. Gary sent it to me via USPS Priority Mail with tracking. Now it is officially lost by our wonderful postal system, oh goodie. The last they know of it was last Friday morning at 12:15 am in New Jersey and I live in MD. It was mailed over a week ago in NY with a three day delivery. Lessons learned; DO NOT send valued things by USPS because they don't keep track of it. I was told they tried to institute a tracking system like UPS or FedEx but they "just couldn't get it right." The idea of their tracking is to scan it in their system at specific places "when they can." I was told by a USPS official after a formal "lost package" claim was filed, "don't panic, it will probably show up in a month or so, we are having some issues with our NJ sites," boy, I feel better already.

So if any of you happen to see a box on the side of the road somewhere between NJ and MD, take a look it might be my freshly painted Smuggler!

Upset at best, Gene

Stuff happens, too bad it was a rare item with a custom paint job. I really hope that a miracle happens and your Smuggler shows up. When discussing your missing motorcycle accessory, did you tell people that you lost a Smuggler? Does the FBI or US Marshals now have your package? Last fall FedEx lost a pair of my tires, the big shippers have problems too.

I actually prefer to use USPS whenever possible over the big carriers. In my experience, they're cheaper, more reliable (never lost a package), and faster.

Hope they find your smuggler.

Spoke to a customer service rep from the USPS late this afternoon and was told, "don't panic, we still haven't found it but we're sure it will show up, we just don't know when." Boy that makes me feel so much better.

I don't like USPS for anything over $50 simply because there is no tracking ability. Not to mention that with the big boys, brown and whatever color fed ex is, when you mail ground you know the day it will arrive based on their systems. To me it's worth paying more for that piece of mind. I rarely use USPS and hate when stuff is sent that way - like my newly installed Vance and Hines CS Ones. Took EIGHT DAYS to go from Nevada to Nor Cal. Brown would have had it here in two. Love my smuggler and I am sure you will too, but it will be snowing when it arrives!

So garauld any issue matching it to the Red on your bike? :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

You're going to love your Smuggler when it finally shows up. Unless you have by then bought the next Gen FJR and it won't fit the new bike......

Update: Got an email at 1:12 this morning, they found the package :yahoo: Now they just have to get it to me. They still have yet to resolve how it got to where it is now, but they assured me I will see it by Saturday. It has to go through three more sorting stations before getting to my little post office :angry2: , but at least they found it.

So if it hasn't been crushed I may have a Smuggler by this weekend, oh boy, oh boy!

Pffft!

I HATE a happy ending to a story.

:p

Great news for sure.

I have to say yours is a rare story on USPS shipping. Anything I can mail I do, as it is and has been very reliable, and cheap for me, with no problems. I know, always the first time it happens is the most important!

When I started in IT I worked for a shipping company and we pre sorted mail for the Zip of the Bulk Mail Center's and the other side of the business was a trucking company. They drove these trucks of pre sorted mail to the perspective Bulk Mail Center's and that is how they got lower rates and made money.

I toured a couple, and the one in NJ is mind boggling! If you have never seen it I cant describe but I watched as our truck was dumped watched it go through their sorter process and come out the end. It is unbelievable and that was 20 years ago!

Important thing is your getting your Smuggler and I think that is great!
