    New from Washington State

I use a cut down screen that barely comes above the gauges. I tried both Yamaha screens and an extra-tall CalSci, but the cut-down from Cee Bailey's is by far the best. I took it off the first winter after I got it but have never taken it off since. I didn't track it exactly, but I'd guess I...

    Mileage between Brake jobs

55,000-ish with some twisties. I have another set of stock pads on order for my second replacement, near 111,111.

    FALL - PNW Tech Meet #15 - October 3rd

I'm in, for socializing. No tech chores but I'll buy and eat a share of lunch. Thanks!

Ram mount needed to secure phone.

I'm using an X-Grip connected through the unused mirror bolt on the clutch lever assembly, with my phone in an Otter Box. No troubles so far. This mounting puts my phone substantially closer to me than the other gauges but for an old fart with progressive bifocals that's not a problem.

    Tacoma or Bust !

I had my zipper installed in 1996 and reopened in 2011 under the supervision of one of the doc's at Cardiac Study Center in Tacoma. The practice also has an office in Puyallup. My heart's still clickin' and I'm still kickin'. PM me for doc's name and other info.

(Lame?) Article in Today's Newspaper About Lane Sharing

Agreed, not a bad article. Agreed that calling motorcycling "not safe" isn't ideal, but it seemed a harmless self-introduction to the cagers. The article was addressed at them, not us, and I thought overall a good one. As a Washingtonian, I've split lanes only a few hours in my lifetime. I was...

Fleece seat cover or Bead Rider?

AirHawk in summer, AirHawk case with six layers of and old blue-foam sleeping pad in winter. The foam is too hot in summer, but the warmth is great in the winter.

    Handlebar Position on Gen2

I thought the too-far back bars were a big problem for the first two years/20,000 miles I had my bike, then I found a solution that works for me. I didn't remove the locating pins or rotatedmy bars forward but instead attached the problem from the other end. I now use an AirHawk seat pad which...

    PNW Spring Tech Meet #12

Thanks to Bryan and family, and to GP suspensions. I really enjoyed the camaraderie, the demo, the lunch, and the pie!

    Cager Problems and Safety

On top of that, we have the Harley guys out for the first time of the season! Thursday, OK Highway, saw a string of cages approaching. As they got a bit closer, Harley pulls out, starts to pass, sticks with it as I approach. I move to the fog line, he passes me at full loud, in my lane, three...

From East Seattle to Portland, OR avoiding I-5 ?

Sorry to be so late to the party, but Issaquah, Enumclaw, Morton, Longview, Portland would do the trick. I get the right route from Google just connecting those five towns in four legs with "no freeways" checked. And yes, I've ridden most of the route, and driven the rest. I live 3/4 mile off...

    Gen III Insurance Increase

Cost is going to vary a lot based on your location and personal record. Progressive beat GEICO by a couple hundred when I last compared. When I hit a deer with my previous bike, a Buell Ulysses, Progressive was quick and friendly, and paid not only the initial claim but also a follow-up claim...

Givi E52 on FJR - AWACS or just right?

I ride with all three bags only about one week a year. The rest of the time, it's top case only. My factory top case has been retired after it and the mounting plate failed and I'm now running a Givi E45. It looks better without the side cases, and is plenty big enough, though I'll admit that...
