    Sell cheap or make modifications

I'm in Northern Indiana and the bike is in the classifieds section. If someone wants to make an offer, I'm certainly not wedded to the $5K price. I'll consider anything.

    Sell cheap or make modifications

I've been trying, with no success, to sell my pristine 2003 FJR. Given its condition, I'm asking $5K, but I'd take $4. No bites. I don't like the bike because it doesn't fit me. I'm not unusually tall (6-foot-2) but my height is in my upper body. The sporty bars are so low my lower back can't...

    cheap wired intercom

I'm new here so I may have missed an earlier discussion. I have no interest in Bluetooth, whatever that is, or music or CB or radio. I also don't want to spend more than a few bucks. I've searched everywhere and cannot find a simple wired intercom so that my wife and I can chat while riding. We...

Feedback requested on buying a used 2004 FJR

You've got some electrical work to do and the CCT on an '04 will need to be checked. Judging from the condition, you'd probably better figure on a valve adjustment and TB sync while you're at it. The price would be fair if the bike showed any signs of having been maintained, but that thing...

    Paint Color Matching

After scuffing my fairing, I lucked into a perfect match. Go to any auto store (I went to AutoZone) and buy Kia silver. An absolutely perfect match, and cheap. The match is so perfect I wonder if Kia and Yamaha aren't buying it from the same provider.

Powerband very different after minor mechanical work

Actually, I wear a 36-inch sleeve and until I blew out my rotator cuffs, was a competitive weightlifter (I am proof of interbreeding between Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens). Reaching the ground is no problem, thanks to my clownishly large (14) feet (insert your own penis joke here). If I lowered...

Powerband very different after minor mechanical work

I'd say I found it about two weeks too late. I've owned about 10 bikes previously, but they were all naked. I could see all the mechanical parts and do most of the work myself. I don't even know where the damn air filter is on this thing. Just read about the Yoda riding position here, BTW. I'll...

Powerband very different after minor mechanical work

I'd like to think he did SOMETHING else. The SOB kept my bike for two weeks and charged me $515, even though I supplied my own coolant and plugs.

Powerband very different after minor mechanical work

I was thinking along the lines that a sufficiently loose chain would change the relationship between the crank and the cams. I should have said valve timing, not just timing. But I'm just speculating. The only other things the mechanic did (as far as I know) was change the plugs and the coolant...

Powerband very different after minor mechanical work

I would also guess the CCT swap changed the valve timing. I had the opposite experience. I bought an 03 last winter and just got it out of the shop. They replaced a ticking CCT; the valves were all fine. When riding the bike home, I noticed a substantial increase in torque, even though none of...

    Shift Question

All bikes have a bigger clunk in the first-to-second shift, which represents the biggest change in gear ratio, than the others. My objection the the FJR gearbox is that it doesn't have a sixth gear. How many of you find yourselves frequently trying to upshift from fifth when you reach highway...

Isabella going in shop -> Maintence time

My 2003, which I acquired this past winter, is currently in the shop for a pre-season check-up. I have no idea what the maintenance history was. The valves were all within tolerance, but the CCT was pretty well shot (I didn't notice it, because I'd never ridden an FJR before and didn't know how...

    odometer freak-out

You're absolutely right! The kilos/miles math works perfectly! Thank you. I feel like an idiot for not thinking of it. I was ready to blame it on the Battery Tender. No kids, by the way. I realized early on that I could either raise kids or I could ride motorcycles. Easy call. But don't let...

    odometer freak-out

Bought a 2003 fjr last winter and put it in my garage. Odometer read 45k. Hooked it up to a Battery Tender Jr. Took it out a couple of days ago and odometer now reads 72k. Also, trip odometer cannot be reset. Nobody rode the bike during the winter. Any thoughts?

    Dropped my bike today

I did exactly the same thing just a few months ago, also my first after 40 years of riding. My outcome was a little different. My left mirror broke cleanly off, but the fairing didn't crack. Also, I seriously burned my leg on the muffler. Even though I'm a 240-pound weightlifter, I needed help...

    oil/filter money saver

Just got back from AutoZone with new wipers for my car. They're having a sale on an STP oil filter plus five quarts conventional Mobil oil for 14 bucks and change. STP filter S6607 fits the FJR. I don't know how long the sale will last, but thought I'd pass it along.
