    2013 FJR Missing Cover

Bought this bike this past November. The missing cover is a plastic cover which mounts on the outside of the airbox duct. Part 41 on this drawing. https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2013/fjr1300a-fjr13adg/fender The air duct is Part 11 on the following drawing...

    Sold Russell Day-Long Saddle

This saddle came with a 3rd Gen FJR I recently bought. The previous owner bought the bike new and had the OE seats modified. He and his wife enjoyed the seats, however I soon discovered that I'm not a good match for the rider seat. The seats are in very good condition. He took good care of...

    Throttle Valve Cleaning

My throttle valves and throttle bodies are a bit dirty with oily grime. I have removed the air filter case and have good access to the throttle body inlets. What's the best procedure for removing the grime from the throttle bodies?

    Speedo, Odos stopped working

Was riding my 2004 non-abs FJR today and the speedo and trip meters stopped working. Speedo showed 0 mph and trip meters stopped updating. Tach, coolant temp, fuel gauge, etc. continued to work ok. Bike ran fine. The amber "engine trouble" warning light came on. At "key on" the speedo...

Testing cam chain tensioner before installation

Will be replacing the OE tensioner on my '04 FJR.  Should I remove the locking tab from the new tensioner and check its operation before installing on bike?

    Oil Filter Anti-Drain Back Valve

If the filter is mounted vertically with the threaded end oriented up is this valve important? I would assume the filter would remain full with no anti-drain back valve. Is the valve trying to stop back flow from all the oil passages on the outlet of the filter? What happens if you drain the...

    Riding affects neck/head movement

In recent years I've noticed that the range of motion of my head/neck is somewhat limited. I have difficulty bending my head back looking up. Also the left and right movement is stiff and somewhat limited. I've often wondered if leaning forward on the FJR with my neck and head at a forward...

Foam Ends on Engine Air Filter

Do these foam sealing gaskets break down on a filter in an older rarely used FJR? I recently looked at an old filter I had removed from my FJR many years ago and noticed that the foam material had begun to disintegrate. I wonder if there are old filters out there in use and the foam has been...

$78 Bridgestone BT023 Rear after rebate

Engine Stop Switch -- 1st Gear Clunk

When you abruptly connect two gears, one motionless and the other turning, you're going to have a clunk or bang. When you're idling at 1100 rpm the large 1st gear wheel can be turning as fast as 278 rpm or 4 revs per second. When you're sitting still and you shift from neutral to 1st you're...

    Driveline Slack/Play

My '04 FJR has a lot of drive-line play. Don't know if it's increased much since new. Seems like it's changed. I measured it today in 1st gear using a plumb-bob dangling from the left footrest. The front-to-rear play in the drive-line was 2.5 inches. May be typical. Driveshaft U-joint...

    Neutral Switch, Gen 1

https://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-3GB-82540-01-00.html Is there a mechanical switch inside the body of this component? Or, is the tip just spring loaded and the switching is the physical touching of the tip to the shift drum? This device appears to be quite reliable since I've seen...

Bridgestone T30 EVO GT front tire

Installed one of these recently. Seems very rigid compared to the previous Pilot Road 2. I changed fork oil too. Don't know if the jiggly, firm tire feeling is due to the tire or the fork oil. I used Maxima 5 WT fork oil which I believed to be very similar to the Yamaha oil. Maybe I need to...

    Split: Hollow FJR Axles

The axle is a hollow tube from the right end all the way through the wheel. Don't know if that offers any opportunities? If the axle is stuck to an inner ring of a bearing, turning it won't help much. The ring will turn with the axle.

    Removing rounded-off bolts

    Replacing fork bushings

After 88K miles I have a fork oil leak. I got the Yamaha seal kit including two oil seals and two dust seals. I didn't get the inner and outer tube bushings. Should the bushings be replaced or could they be OK? How do you remove the oil seals if you don't remove the inner tube, etc.?

    Radiator Cap on Expansion Tank

Just got a new Honda Civic and I noticed that the coolant pressure cap is on the plastic expansion tank rather than the radiator. There is no removable cap on the radiator. A small hose just below the cap can dump excess coolant onto the ground. This scheme is new to me. There must be a...

    Battery Terminal Bolts

My battery connections get slightly loose over time. Since I don't have wrench access to the rectangular nut down below, all the tightening torque is absorbed by the flimsy sheet metal battery terminal. I'd like to have bolts which I could wrench on both ends, protecting the terminal from the...

    Gen 3 ABS System

Does anyone know if the newest ABS system periodically cycles the pump, valves, etc. to circulate fluid throughout the hydraulic unit? Apparently the Gen 1 system didn't routinely cycle the hydraulic unit. Don't know if the Gen 2 did or not? I assume the Gen 3 system may be approaching the...

Is an oil cooler a bonus, a premium adder?

I've noticed on many of the Yamaha liquid-cooled bikes that they've included an oil to coolant heat exchanger. Don't know if that's a premium feature or if it allows for less oil and an oil pan with less surface area and reduced air cooling? Many of the Kawasaki bikes don't have oil coolers...
