    Engine Idle Speed

I appreciate all the input and information others have dealt with. I had plans to dive in to it last weekend but....I now have a fractured finger and it's all splinted up. Oh yeah, and ruptured the top tendon as well. I have a hard time getting my hands in those tight spaces when nothing is...

    Engine Idle Speed

I removed the throttle body, disconnected the cables and set it aside (on bench) so I could do a good cleaning on it before reinstalling. Sounds like I first need to recheck the cables to see if they are too tight. I didn't find the YSM very clear on adjusting cables...or maybe I just wasn't...

    Quin - A Smarter Helmet?

I'm in the same boat! I watched the Skully project and then moved on to the Nand Logic Smart Helmet. With the advancement of all the technology going in to cars/trucks these days, why on this green earth can't they incorporate it into a helmet? Well...besides the fact that a helmet is...

    Engine Idle Speed

I will probably be looking at a TBS this weekend simply because I didn't get that done once everything was back together and I know the TBS was performed on prior engine that had compression issues in #3 and #4. Throttle cables are tight and doesn't seem to have the 5mm play as the manual...

    Engine Idle Speed

Yes, the idle adjustment knob...sorry, the service manual listed it as "throttle stop screw". Before replacing the engine, it would adjust the idle up/down when turned.

    Engine Idle Speed

I recently did an engine swap on my '05. Everything seems to be working well with the exception of the engine idle. Once the engine is warmed up, idle drops to around 1400-1500 RPM. I know from performing my own TBS that is should be between 1000-1100 RPM. When I turn the throttle stop screw...

    Quin - A Smarter Helmet?

If we learned nothing from the Skully helmet fiasco, I'd stay as far away from any "kickstarter" projects as possible! Luckily I didn't buy in to Skully but I did get taken by the Kanoa earbud project for a measly $150.

    Engine switch

Nope, didn't examine it but I have my old motor sitting in the garage. I think I'm gonna play around with it and maybe get some experience with the internals. Heck, I can't hurt anything and it's not like it's needed at the moment. I went back and found the second email from the shop. They had...

    Engine switch

Yeah Fred, you're right. I probably didn't state it quite like the conversation went with the shop. There were so many things they said needed to be changed, then threw that estimate at me and I got lost in it all and only was thinking...."how am I gonna pay for this, I don't have another bike...

    Engine switch

philellis123, For the astronomical amount that shops charge on labor, I decided when I bought the bike in 2014 that I'd perform all maintenance myself. That was a pretty bold thought at the time because I really had no FJR mechanical knowledge or idea of how involved things could get. I mean...

    Engine switch

Chiming in late here but thought it would be FWIW. Last October I finally took my '05 to a local shop for diagnosis. I had been trying for months to rectify a stalling issue when I came to a stop sign or traffic light. If I kept a little throttle in it, no stall. TBS was done, checked and...

    HealTech Quickshifter

I rode my friends 2015 BMW GS for the last couple months while I performed "heart surgery" on my '05. I found myself still using the clutch on his bike simply because it made the shifting less brutal between 1st and 2nd. In the upper gears the quick shift was smoother. Probably not something I'd...

Ditto "lonerider's" comment. I was on the fence anyway and will probably just spend the money on something I wanted more. Cheers!

I've taken just about every bolt out of the front of mine (disassembled each piece of the fairing and nose cone) but every piece went back together without the movement you had. That's why I thought maybe it had something to do with the 4 Phillips screws that attached the nose to the front. Glad...

Oh man, do post those pics...I did not know that happened. That damned blue bike kept me tied up all day long. Scott probably had that same sick feeling in the pit of his stomach a lot like I did when Ray says "we're going to have to tear your engine apart:"

Ding, ding, ding...very observant, you both win!. Bob got me to thinkin' about why the mirrors weren't moving. They're aftermarket OEM mirrors not Yamaha OEM so I assumed they were OEM look-a-likes but not OEM functional. I pulled the rubber base cover and found the spring loaded bolt was...

This question is for Bill and Bob (at least). I'm not sure how many others were in on the conversation. Q. What's different about this picture?

    (In)Tech day IV Rescheduled May 20, 21 2016

Thinking I would have had a chance to get the bike off the trailer and go for a ride, I had planned to post my "Tech Day" thoughts and impressions yesterday. I managed to get the bike in the garage and that was about it (this Seattle weather sucks!). I left the house this morning around 0300 and...

Maybe Bob should have charged the owner of the blue bike a storage fee....wait a minute, I was the only one there with a blue bike...never mind!
