    Going to the Dark Side

Unfortunately this is so true. Less than 5k miles is common if the big girl is pushed. With the heavy wing, burning off 2/32ths of tread every 325-350 miles has been observed.

Why Whiskey Snobs are Full Of It.

Kind of reminds one of that "Great Mountain Spring" water that came out of a tap in NJ before going into the clear plastic bottle. :)

    Going to the Dark Side

It seems as if you FJR Darksiders are at quite a disadvantage in the tire selection department when it comes to tire weight. From what I could find the 180/55-17 Michelin PR2 weighs between 13-13.5 lbs. I did some checking on 205/50-17 CTs and came up with the following: General G-Max = 21lb...

    Going to the Dark Side

Just curious. Do you folks keep a database (or some other records) indicating the tire-only weight of moto tires for the FJR and also the same weight info for CTs that fit the FJR? I search this thread and I think I seen tire weight mentioned once with respect to unsprung weight. I also seen...

    Wytheville next weekend

You could start out in Marion, VA (not too far south of Wytheville) and run route 16 all the way to Beckley, WV. Then pick up route 41 and run that to US 60 and take it in an easterly direction to get to route 311 (in a southerly direction) to Paint Bank, VA. The is a restaurant in Paint Back...

My tire wore down on one side more than the other

I haven't run a motorcycle tire in so long I forget but I always experience more wear on the right side on both the car tire (on the rear) and the moto tire on the front. I think it is because I force the bike through the shorter radius right-handers with the same speed and that puts more...

Why yes as a matter of fact, Gen III paint is shit.

Yeah, he knows he didn't get some of it on quite right because it looks a little like orange peel. I think he sprayed his on in APR or MAY of this year.

    Would you rent your FJR?

I have never owned an FJR so didn't reply to your poll. However, there has been times I wanted to rent a sport tourer and would have gladly covered the bike with insurance while it was in my care. As far as renting my gl1800, I haven't. But I have let a fellow from TX take it down the Blue...

Why yes as a matter of fact, Gen III paint is shit.

I have a friend that put something similar to that on his scoot. It is supposed to just peel off when you want to clean/wax under it or otherwise replace it. On his scoot, in some places it did just peel off; in other pieces it came off it little bitty pieces making it nearly impossible to get...

    Battery question

I have never worked on an FJR but know that on some bikes when the voltage drops below approx. 10.5 volts, the ignition won't fire AND/OR the fuel system won't deliver fuel. Just a thought.

    Boot Recommendation

Cav, I don't have any suggestions based on your requirements but can tell you what I do. I too want a boot I can wear for more than just riding. In fact, I want a boot I can use for wading through 6" of mud, is water proof, comfortable all day and just a good all around work boot. (FYI-I...

Info wanted - Gear store in NOVA

I have bought gear from https://www.blueridgepowersports.com/ and https://www.valleycyclecenter.com/ I can't say their selection is super, but depending on your route, they'd be along the way. That is if, from Baltimore, you take I-70 West to Frederick, MD and catch US15 South and follow signs...
