The PIAA lights have to be switched on manually and I was pretty sure I had them off yesterday when the new battery died. There are no other accessories. Maybe tomorrow if I hvae ants in my pants about the voltage indicator, I'll go out for the same ride with the PIAAs on and test the voltage...

They're the PIAA lights. I don't know what they draw. Good question about what they draw. I don't know, they are PIAA E-13. I have the wiring harness instructions which indicates "For lamp systems with bulbs of 130 W x2 or less. When the original battery died, I definitely had riden with them...

SO it looks like a replacement to get this thing to work (assuming the R/R is the problem,) is $129. Where on the bike does the thing live? How much plastic has to be removed? No garage, driveway project?

After about seven hours the battery voltage is essentially the same. Tested with the key off at around 11 AM voltage was 12.74. Tested again at about 6 PM voltage was 12.72. I assume 2/100 of a volt is insignificant. Other than more tests, can someone clue me in as to where the R/R is located...

I'll test now with the battery tender off and then again this evening and see if the battery has discharged. I thought this might be the problem though frankly, it'd have to be a short somewhere as there are no electronics on the bike (only high powered lights which I believe were off yesterday...

Using a volt meter with a load test function the battery reads 13 volts (after having been on the charger for a few hours). At 2000 RPM and above, voltage is 14 volts. At idle, voltage is 13.8 or thereabouts. Sounds like a bit of a mystery to me. Eric

Thanks much. Just a quick follow-up... The battery is now being charged so I assume it will be fully topped off tomorrow when I reinstall it in the bike. I would think being fully charged up off the bike, it would read 13 volts. Don't I ned to test voltage output at the altenator? Am I missing...

Not sure why I'm getting all this about communting, since I thought I said I'm not communting. NYC is among the safest cities in the United States and while people do get their bikes ripped off I don't think the FJR is that high on theives list. They tend to go for Ducati's, Street Triples, etc...

I work at home so commuting everyday is not a concern. I'm really interested mainly in ridability. i suppose I'll have to find a dealer who'll let me test the bike. Eric
