You are in for a surprise, a good one. The maintenance side is awesome, this forum has all the guru's. It might feel a bit top heavy but you get used to it. The grin never goes away. Happy riding whatever your choice.

    Snow is bullshit

I read a story about a couple of NZ guys going over the southern alps using snow chains. I looked them up, you can get snow chains for an FJR! I reported this to my wife who did not appreciate my humor with a loud NO! Now there are snow socks which are much better in snow and slush. I...

2009 Gen2 died while riding to work - frustrating and I need some advise please

Check the kick-stand switch. I had my 2007 cut out a couple of times before I figured it out. Take the switch off clean and lube, or get a new one. I after cleaning and lube (normal grease) it worked fine so I have a space new switch.

    Windscreen shimming

On a different thread I posted the details of a CalSci tall windscreen I mounted on my FJR. I added 3D printed rails to open the bottom of the screen to get a smooth airflow. I am 6' 2" and the standard FJR screen was had brutal turbulence. The .STL files ( left and right) are too big to...

    Mode switch

T is for Touring (timid fast). S is for Sports (stupid fast).

    "Jumping" FJR

It has all the indications of a huge balance problem. I have had this where the bike best described as "grumbles" as the speed increases. I used Dyna Beads to solve the issue as they adjust as the tire wears. For new tires I static balance and then add Dyna Beads to trim any minor out of...

    No good deed goes

I have used the mushroom plugs. The newer the tire the more likely to find a nail/screw/pom (piece of metal) in the rear tire. My previous Roadsmart III had a mushroom plug in the rear for 15,000 miles. The current III's are cupping badly, it appears the asymmetric tread pattern and the...

    2019 FJR 1300 ES - Columbia MD

Attached are pictures of the rear light strips. This is the running intensity. It is about twice as bright with brake or turn. The turn is timed with the normal signal light flashing on and off. The wires of the strip are run through D shaped adhesive door flashing (McMaster-Carr). The tape...

    Leaking fuel pump seal

It is a bit messy, but dust the area with chalk or flour to show where the leak is occuring. once you have the source identified you can understand what is going on. Hope this helps.

Windshield bracket left+right adjustment and alignment

Here are a couple of images of the models and the geometry. I tried to attach the STL files but my iPad or the site is not allowing it. Send me a message and I will e-mail them to you. the models are shown in the 3D build orientation.

Windshield bracket left+right adjustment and alignment

I bought a Calsci windscreen and found at full up the turbulence behind the screen was pretty bad. The front almost touched the front fairing cutting off the flow on the inside of the screen. After some wool tufting inside and on the outside determined that lifting and tilting back would...

    FLIR on Motorcycles

The FLIR system can be purchased as just a camera or with a "threat detection" added to the thermal display. Does anyone have experience to suggest which system would be preferred, i.e., should I pay the extra for the threat detection. I am leaning towards the threat detection as an alert...

Do you all get “challenged” at stop lights?

This is a great thread. There are many instances where the power to weight ratio of the FJR can put distance between you and potential trouble. I was discussing riding with a co worker who runs muscle cars. I said that the FJR has two modes, T and S. T is supposedly for touring and S is for...

Sudden 2014 FJR1300A starting, running problem. Canister issue?

I had the exact symptoms of my 2007 and found cleaning out the vacuum lines (negative pressure hoses) to the air intake pressure sensor, also replaced the Throttle position sensor, solved the problem completely. I rinsed the hoses in gas and got a lot of crud out. Had 86,565 miles on. Some...

    Sudden power loss

Had this once. Check the side stand switch for function. Lube the crap out of it to keep water out and the lube oxidizing. It does get warm near the pipes. Took me a long time to figure it out. The other issue was the small bore supplemental air pipes getting clogged. Easy to remove and...

    Speedometer varying

The YCC-S speed sensor is mounted on the back of the crank case and reads the gear teeth pulses. Page 5-96 in my 2006 - 2007 service manual (Gen 2). I had a 2007 and now have a 2019ES.

    EOM 2019 Discussion

Altoona PA is a location with lots of ridges, railroad history, scenery and of course roads to suit all tastes. I haven’t been through recently. There seem to be a number of hotels on the map. The price is not mainstream $55 to $99. There is similar topology to the Williamsport area...
