The ring free will cause any carbon and oil build up to be removed from the rings, pistons and valves and will end up in the oil pan. The times I have done it I have done the oil changes right after the treatment and a couple weeks down the road. I don't know if that helped clear the engine of all the debris but never had any trouble after.
