Even more controversy... One question that has persisted is: Just how deflated were each of those damn balls? ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen reported hearing (from an undisclosed NFL source) that 11 of the 12 were under inflated by 2 psi. But that has not been confirmed by any entity. Pro Football Talk is reporting (based on information from their own league insider) that only the intercepted ball was 2 psi low, and that the other 10 balls were more like 1 psi low. Well, that might explain how the refs, or anyone else handling the balls wouldn't notice them being low. Inflating the balls to the minimum spec (12.5psi), totally within the rules, and then bringing them out of the warm locker room and into sub 50 degree field temps would allow the balls to deflate below spec by just about one psi. The Science Guys that are poo-pooing the temperature deflation scheme are basing that on not achieving a 2 psi loss. It may or may not be significant that Bill Nye is a Seattle fan in addition to being a made for TV science guy. So that may explain 10 of the 11 soft balls, but how did that 11th ball drop the extra psi? You know... the one that D'Quell Jackson intercepted, didn't notice anything at all wrong with, and sunsequently handed to the Indianapolis Colts equipment manager? Hmmm... maybe they are looking in the wrong locker room for the cheaters?
