What are your thoughts about the extended service. Are there multiple options (years) available. Sorta weird thinking about a new MC imploding in the first 3 years......What about the cost? I'm working REALLY HARD to stay in Vegas and buy local. Willing to spend more than I have to to support my local dealer(even if it is RideNow) to a point.....but I need a little kissing before the actual deflowering begins. In all fairness, I think this is the last A in Vegas. It will sell. I also do not want the breakin to be done crossing the desert at 'damn it hot' speeds. Thanks again, bes

O.k. I'll try to save you from a newbie beatdown, which you do kinda deserve....

There are a shit ton of threads addressing this issue and where to get it from.

clicky

Use the search in google. Just search for ____ site:fjrforum.com.

We don't mind discussing stuff, but after 400 threads about the same thing, it just gets old.

So anyway, the YES is very much worth it, particularly if you purchase it from D&H in Alabama.

I do deseve a good beating--thank you sir may I.....I will search. You answered my main question, Can I buy this from a different dealer--Thanks

I will be a better newbie---maybe we can discuss synth vs dino oil, or tire pressure, or the best windscreen.....No the heating issues. Sorry, I'll go away now

You can buy Y.E.S. from any Yamma dealer. I did mine over the phone with D&H . . . CHEAP ! Has payed for itself already with a couple of ignition switches & middle gear replacement.

These questions are ONLY answered on friday..really...ask again on friday :assassin: . The short answer is yes to YES and you shouldnt pay more than 500 greenbacks or thereabouts. D&H in Alabama used to have the cheapest, mine was 400 3 years ago. My camchain tensioner broke and it paid for itself with this one snafu. And if yer a love 'em and leave 'em type of guy this warranty is transferable to the new owner should you not find the feejer to your fancy...but you will. Good luck and welcome to the fray.

Blessings,

Bobby

Don't be so sensitive! My hazing was far softer than others may have delivered. I didn't ask you to go away, just to use the search feature! ;)

Feel free to post any questions that you can't find an answer to after you search. We are always here to help. :group hug:

No tears here;I spent many years doin stupid things at the BMWST site. Another quality board simular to this. I just want my cake served to me. Great price on everything and buy locally to develop hopefully a lasting and fair relationship with my dealer. Hard to hold hand with anyone in Vegas. Thanks again for a great site, Now about that heating issue...........

I hope ur not saying the heat on the '08 is bad....go ride an '04 for a couple hrs, then see :D

I'm a newbie too. I learned about D&H through this forum, and I called Gerald Hopper today. He said that the 48 month Y.E.S. was available at a price of $389. He did not want to do it over the phone, but asked me to send him the info and a check by mail.

The 48 months turns the factory warranty into a 60 month unlimited mileage deal. Plus it appears to include modest trip interuption insurance.

I normally don't buy extended service agreements.... but this one seemed priced right, its transferable to another owner, and Mr. Hopper said that if the bike were totalled, there would be some refund.

I decided it could be useful at some point, and even if I didn't use it, it would make the bike more attractive for resale. I'm kinda fickle with motorcycles, although the FJR is showing signs that it may be a keeper.

I'm waiting on the beat down too. I think I mighta just poked the bear in another thread...

But, you apparently didn't read the thread you promised when you signed up...titled with the sneaky title New Owners Read This. It's #26....I've got it committed to memory.

You might read those things again that you so cavalierly ignored and promised to.

In all fairness, I went and read that shite the other day. Holy info overload Batman! I mean, yeah, there's a ton of good info there, but me thinks that it's probably waaaay to much for a newbie to absorb when the whole FJR experience is a new one.

And as to the original question..............

It depends.

FJR is a pretty reliable platform, but there are always the exceptions to the rule. So, though I may think $400 is pretty cheap for a total 5 year UNLIMITED mileage warranty, it may not be to you. I guess you need to answer some questions - How many miles do you ride? How much is peace of mind worth?

I know that $389 I paid for the 4 year Y.E.S. has paid for itself many times over on my 146,000 mile FJR. Cam chain, tensioner, final drive seal, and just recently a main wiring harness. And of course all the $$$$ labor to put those parts in.

I don't think Mamie-Yammie took me into account when they came up with their actuarial tables for pricing and Unlimited mileage warranty. Nope. Don't think they like me too much.

Bought the YES for my '08. I don't normally spring for extended service contracts but, 4 full years of piece-of-mind was worth it (1YR regular, 3 yrs extended).

Probably paid too much through my local dealer but he has a right to a small profit too. I like keeping local people employed. They do the same for me :)

Funny thing, the FJR is probably more rock-solid than almost any of my other purchases but I bought it anyway. The YES also provides roadside assistance and trip interruption insurance. These can't be underestimated. These could be 30-50% of your YES contract price in one swoop - then the repair.
