Center Throttle Spring Question

Has anyone with an 06 or 07 released the center spring two turns? I'm just wondering because it still feels like it would be better if I let it unwind once more.

Yes I have, and then added it back the grip does not want to return to the stop.

It's like having a poor criuse control and not worth the worry that when you

take your hand off the throttle it wont snap back and kill the throttle.

Last year, at the urging of many on this forum, I released the center

throttle spring on my FJR. I believe it helped.

This year I cleaned and lubed the throttle tube.

( I was installing a G2 throttle tube but that's not relevant here. )

Upon re-assembly, the throttle would not snap back to the stop.

At first I thought the tube was binding, but it had spun smoothly

during fitting, prior to final assemby.

I thought about this for a moment then checked the slack or better yet

the "tension" of the throttle cables and found them to be too tight.

As soon as I loosened the adjuster ( near the grip ) the throttle

"snapped" back just like you would expect it to.

Recently, while I doing some other work on the bike ( I try to get

as much done as possible whenever the bodywork is off ) I took a

look at the throttle spring as noticed it has no tension on it at all.

My advice: clean & lube your throttle tube and check your cable tension.

Mine has been working fine so far this year. I pay particular attention

to this since I installed the Audiovox CC.

I let go one turn and looking down on the tang, it wasn't even touching the spring at the idle position so to answer your question, I don't think an addtional turn is necessary. I don't recommend doing this mod at all if you intend to install a G2 with a MADCO throttle lock as I experienced too much drag for a positive thottle return. As I posted in another thread for the G2, I ended up re-springing the throttle, now I don't have a return problem and a throttle I can trust.

Yep, I've got my FJR torn apart right now and went ahead and released the center throttle spring as long as I was digging around in there. Seems to make a big difference in how much resistance there is to twisting and like Herkypilot, the spring doesn't touch the tang when the throttle is fully closed. That said, it does snap back when released. Maybe not as fast, but that's a tradeoff you'll need to decide for yourself. FWIW, I can't think of any occasion when I was on the road and took my hand off the throttle to let it close.

Well, there was that high-side, but that doesn't count. :dribble:
