AudioVox CC Install on an '06 AE

OK, I have put this off long enough!!! I need to finally install the AudioVox Cruise Control that I bought 8 months ago. I ride an '06 AE so I cannot fit it under the seat or under the right hand side fairing.

The only other spot, therefore, that I have seen on these forums that is available is under the front end of the gas tank, on top of the engine. I REALLY don't wanna put it there as I am concerned that the heat from the proximity of the engine will drastically shorten the unit's life!

So is there ANY other place to mount the actuator that anyone has found for an AE? And I'm not talking of wire-tying it on the top of the rear seat! Something tucked in, out of view?

I ended up putting it on the rear bolt that holds the right can and passenger foot peg bracket. I've heard of people putting it up on top on the engine. Thats where I put the vacuum accumulator. I like having it in the back. I can access it for troubleshooting. Never had any problems with it, though. Tried for hour to put it under the seat, wouldn't fit. I even tried to cut openings in some of the plastic under the seat..still no luck.

If you look close you might be able to see it.

Smitty put mine under the T bar 23000 miles ago and it still works fine in the SoCal heat......

Here's a thought....

The airbox is HUGE. Put the blasted thing inside the airbox. It will always be bathed in fresh, cool air and you can run the actuator cable out through the PAIR input. You HAVE removed your PAIR octopus, haven't you?

When you say T-bar, you mean the under the tank and cross brace locale, right?

That'd blow Wicked Webby's airbox mod all to hell, wouldn't it??

Heck with it. Remove the airbox, just use the intake pipes right on the throttle bodies, stick some sponges or something on the end for air cleaning, and then you've got all that room for other stuff.

I am really thinking about doing that. I wonder if I can find some K&N to fit.

I think I see it. It is just under the two bolts that hold the right muffler's mounting bracket to the frame, right? But I am confused: if you put it here, sooner or later, if you hit a pot-hole hard, are you not going to smash the bejesus out of it with the swing-arm for the rear wheel? When the suspension compresses, end of AudioVox vacuum servo????

Take note of the bend in the bracket - you'll have to reverse the bracket on the servo, then slightly enlarge the bolt holes in the bracket. I find that painting it flat black makes it blend in. Waterproof the access cover with some aquarium sealer.

This install is problem free unless you go to the dark side. I've got 43,000 on mine - and not a blink. And don't forget to waterproof the control pad.

Well, I believe you guys and thanks for the info. But it sure looks like the suspension will crush the actuator on a big travel occurrence. But if you guys have been riding with it like that for years, must be OK.

Anyone have a bad experience with it in this location?

My FJR is a Gen I so the peg bracket is different from your Gen II but my AVCC servo is in basically the same place as kaitsdad's. My servo has been in that location for 60k miles without a problem.

Seems like the right side position would make removing/installing the wheel a bit more difficult but obviously manageable.

Another 1st gen install, but I was able to fit mine in completely under the driver's seat. I even had enough room to put my vacuum reservoir in next to it with room for my headlight relay delay module (yellow wires) and the PCIII USB. This location required me to completely remove the stock tool tray and restraining the ECU in place (it normally fastens to the bottom of the tray).



One advantage: When I later decided I really don't need (or want) an electronic CC anymore, I still had the stock (uncut) tool tray to stick back in there!

When you decide to install that really nice Ohlins rear shock, you'll need that spot to mount the remote adjuster.

Some folks felt our admins' attempts to keep things here organized and running smoothly were a bit "heavy-handed" and decided to take their ball and go home.

Guess they didn't appreciate our flavor of anarchy and wanted a taste of their own.

A portion of the decision for some of these folks to pull up stakes, piss on the fire and call the dogs was based on unfounded and patently false claims of "censorship".

They didn't like the rules here and went elsewhere. It really is that simple.

I don't think I'd worry too much about engine heat....
