Okay, I am now ready to upgrade my windscreen. I've done my research and have narrowed my choices down to the Calsci aand Rifle. I'm 5'11" with apelike 36" sleeve and stumpy barely 32" inseam.

If you have either or have had both, what do you like and dislike about each of the two brands above? Oh yes, I live and ride most of the time in Florida, ride year-round.

Price is not the issue as they are close in price, I am mainly concerned about cutting the buffeting and wind noise. Ride almost always 1 up.

Thanks for your input and help.

I have a rifle +5 in height, and +4 in width. I am 6'2", have 38 inch sleeves and 34.5 inch inseam. I have no experience with the Cal Sci, but they are favorably reviewed. I have had my Rifle installed for about 4 years, and it works extremely well, with excellent protection and no buffeting. I chose the bronze tint, and here's what it looks like on my '06 (kinda like a barn door, but it grows on you):

I have the CalSci barn door shield; it's great in cold weather. Only have to raise it a little to get things quiet even at highway speeds. However, for Maryland summer weather (hot and humid), it blocks a little too much air for me, even in the bottom position, so I usually swap in my OEM shield for summertime. I'm 6'4", 35" inseam.

Not that I ave been able to determine, but I've never kept a real close watch on my gas mileage.
+1, I haven't either, but I occasionally get 50 mpg, driving slow at higher altitudes. But usually get around 40 mpg, + or -.

I'll try to be your yardstick. I have an 05 purchased In 2010, so 4 years and 25,000 miles experience. I've owned and tried the following: calsci, cee bailey, rifle, vstream, stock, and touring. The only combo I haven't tried is the laminar lip (although I do own one, I've never actually mounted it on the bike).

The setup I keep coming back to is the rifle with the tuning block for 3 season riding and the stock shorty in the summer. I'm 6' tall, 33" inseam, with 36" arms. In the full up position ( or nearly so) the rifle is seriously quiet with no buffeting. The shorty is loud and offers a lot of wind, which I really want in 80 to 90 degree riding. I found the calsci too loud, allowing too much air to come through. The cb is probably too short so I would withhold judgement. The vstream works, but I like rifle better. Sure it looks and acts like a barn door, but the experience of riding behind it is pretty close to perfect for me.

Hope that helps. Baz

PS: gas mileage seems to be more a function of throttle position. If I drive conservatively, I can get 44 to 48 mpg. If I'm a hooligan, it's 39. I don't think the barn door has that great an effect given that the bike isn't especially aerodynamic to begin with.

blassoff,

Just the type of comparison I was looking to find. Thank you for your info. Quiet is what I think I value most in a new shield. Sounds as if the Rifle has the edge due to the angle optimizers. He stock and by default the CalSci seem to be too vertical in the up position. The angle optimizers seem to help with that. I think that is what keeps the noise down.

Thanks again for all the response's.

I didn't like the CalSci because it is narrow at the top and causes buffeting around your ears.... Rifle fixed all that, although it is a bit of a barn door. If you want more airflow around the bottom/sides, I highly recommend the Baker Air Wings, which also can block adverse weather as needed...... but I consider the Rifle the best.

Rifle does not list a shield for the '14ES. I bought a CB +4/+3 reverse contour for the FJR because the same worked perfectly on my BMW RT - it was a mistake. The CB does nothing for buffeting and wind noise at highway speeds. I'm spoiled and used to zero noise/buffeting at triple digit speeds. I too need a solution. 6' w/ 32" inseam

I had a Cee Bailey reverse contour (read: flipped top) on my 2004 Concours. It did an amazing job at providing a quiet comfortable ride. The FJR is a whole different animal. I don't think you can compare the two (based on height and a fixed position on the Connie).

Oka, update. After much deliberation, I placed an order for the Rifle +3. As I get it on, I will post up my impression.

Thanks to all for the input.

Hopefully, quiet, Jim
