FJR1300 Eastern Owners Meet 2020 Event Thread.

The 2020 FJR Eastern Owners Meet will be hosted in Boone, North Carolina on September 17th to 20th, 2020 at the Holiday Inn Express.  A group rate has been established for the event – details below.

EOM was hosted in Boone in 2006.  Hosting the event in Boone provides access to our favorite roads that were just a bit out of reach to the north for most normal day loop rides during previous years.  Another challenge with hosting the event in Boone has been the Appalachian State University football home game schedule in September.  This is the first year that a weekend in the latter half of September has been an away game weekend.  The route files that member LeeDavis has created offer something for everyone!  Those files will be posted to FJREOM.com and available for download by August 1st.

There will be a banquet meal on Saturday, September 19th catered by the Dan’l Boone Inn of Boone, NC.  The meal will consist of Fried Chicken, Country Style Steak, Mashed Potatoes & gravy, Green Beans, Coleslaw, dessert, tea & coffee.  Seating for the banquet & meal are limited this year due to the conference room size at the hotel.  Banquet capacity is limited to 65 guests.

Registration Details.

Registration will be set up and processed through the Attacktheroad.com store front.  Banquet, rally swag, and other merchandise will be available there.  Registration will open no later than June 1st, 2020, and possibly sooner time permitting.  A link will be added here one the registration site is live.

The Holiday Inn Express located at 1943 Blowing Rock Rd, Boone, NC 28607 - (828) 264-2451 offers many amenities including a deluxe hot breakfast bar, Wi-Fi, and is within walking distance of many restaurants.  The group rate set up for this event are included below.  The hotel will begin accepting reservations on March 23rd.

Update - August 2020.

EOM Update – COVID19 - Event Update – August 5th, 2020.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic’s current state, it is time to make some adjustments to EOM 2020.  The hotel room block is still arranged and in place for those who wish to and are able to attend.  At this point, there is no way to predict where individual states will be in regards to the spread or containment of the pandemic.  Holding the annual EOM banquet would not be in alignment with the current social distancing guidelines and likely not by allowed by local or state policy.

The event format for 2020 will mimic what the “Ramble” has been in Southeast Ohio for many years – a show up and ride event.  There will be no EOM event registration or banquet meal this year.

For those who decide to visit the Holiday Inn Express in Boone on the weekend of September 19th, you may run into a few other FJR enthusiasts...

LeeDavis created a logo for the event and I've set up a shirt order with our normal vendor in TN - they are a locally owned, small business and are very appreciative for any business they get from the group.  You can find the shirts (Here), in my Attacktheroad.com e-commerce site.

Be safe, healthy and pass the Lysol!

Update #2Hotel is ready to accept reservations now (March 24th, 2020). Guests may call the hotel directly at (828) 264-2451 - be sure to mention "FJREOM". Guests may also use this link to make reservations.

Thanks Wayne. Boone was the location of my first EOM many moons ago.
Lee & I have been waiting quite a few years for the schedule to line up and allow us to get the event back to Boone.  Boone let's us touch some riding that's been just a bit out of range (north) for day loops out of EOM HQ.  Even without the normal banquet Saturday, the riding will be spectacular...

Adding this update to here as well.

Update - August 18th.I talked to the hotel this morning. We have a decent number of reservations in the room block (she did not have an exact number in front of her). They do have room open & available. Please keep in mind that the cancellation policy within the room block is 7 days. If you have a reservation and it's associated with the event room block, make note of that cancellation policy.Originally, Saturday's dinner was going to be catered by the Dan'l Boone Inn (which has been cancelled). I spoke to Jeff today; they are open and serving breakfast and dinner. I am going to plan on having dinner; he suggested that if we have a group of 10-12 or more, to call and make a reservation. Post up here if you're interested - it's about 2 miles from the hotel, so we'll ride or Uber...

We have orders for 10 shirts now, cut of for orders is Saturday, August 29th at midnight.  As a reminder, we need a minimum order of 24 to have the shirts run; If we don't hit that minimum, I will refund the orders that were placed via my storefront.

Thanks,

Wayne

Quick update and food for thought.

One week from today, I'll be soaking in some tasty Kentucky twisty roads on my way to Boone. With where things are today in the world, it's nice to see so many still willing and able to make the trek to EOM. Many regulars and even some new names / faces in the mix. It won't be the same event as previous years as local regulations and best practices prohibit large gatherings. I look forward to catching up with those who do make it.

That said, I realized something that will be missing this year. Usually with registration, I collect (and carry) emergency contact information from everyone. I've had to use this information in the past when the unfortunate happens. I've hated making those calls, but thankful that I had the information available to provide some assistance and ability to ask those local to help out as well. With no registration this year, I will not have that e-contact info available or with me. I'm not asking for it here or expect anyone to provide it.

If you want to provide it, you can PM me here. I'd highly recommend that anyone traveling to / from Boone have a plan with someone to know your travel plans and ETA's and what is the point to consider you "past due" and raise the smoke signals for help.

Other notes. Check your bike - tires, levers and pedals, etc. We've learned this year that a sticky clutch lever can cause havoc on clutch plates - and is especially entertaining when said issue arises days before a long road trip (Right, CAV?). I can't count how many times we've walked past a bike parked at the hotel with tires showing cords and the rider googling "nearest motorcycle shops" (insert wise-crack from Geek about me and my reserved parking spot at IronPony Service in Columbus...).

Ride your ride - as always. Don't let someone else determine your pace at any given point of the trip or day. If the thought, "I'm trying to keep up" ever flashes through your head, then chances are you're pressing harder than you should. Ambulance and Helo rides are not all they've cracked up to be - trust me, been there too.

Above all, I wish everyone safe travels - fair winds and following seas - have fun, stay safe, see ya in Boone next week!

Thank you to everyone who made the trek to Boone this year!  After a soggy Thursday for most, Friday and Saturday were pretty decent riding days!!
