I decided I should have some sort of Road Side Assistance program.

It's almost impossible to find and unbiased comparison -- so I figured I'd ask you nice people!

What I think I know:

• AAA doesn't cover motorcycles unless you upgrade through AAA premium to AAA RV plus, and there are mileage and restrictions price $100/year ?

• AMA MOTOW through www.amadirectlink.com

• MTS-Towing --www.mts-towing.com heard a few post that it's good.

based on paper/advertising literature, I'm leaning leaning toward:

• GoodSamers.com covers all vehicles (rv boat trailer, motorcycle) any family member, unlimited mileage: $89.99/first year

This is very interesting pole.

1) I carry, the FJR Assistance list, I think this is/will be HUGE when the time comes.

- I'm on it, and would go out of my way to help someone else with tools, a trailer, what ever.

2) I was just debating with my wife about the towing coverage on our insurance. We've used it numerous times in the past with just about every vehicle we own at one point or another. We've never had a reimbursement turned down, ever, and some were pretty healthy. It's not cheap to load up the Excursion and have it towed any distance.

I don't know for a fact that I have this coverage on the motorcycle or even if it's available, my gut feeling is I don't and it isn't.

However, that would not stop me from turning in a towing bill to my agent, and saying take care of this, I have towing coverage on all of the vehicles I insure with you and if you want to keep all our vehicles and home you'll take care of this for me.

Now that being said, I've always been prepared to simply rent a pickup and drive home from where ever it is that I break down if I can't get help. (The thought of driving back from say EOM in a pickup would suck, but if that's what happens that's what happens).

100 bucks a year, 24 hr towing, any vehicle you own (rentals included I believe), spouses incl. at no cost. will tow whatever it is you broke to the nearest qualified repair place milage UNLIMITED!!! So if you break the Feej in BFE and the nearest bike shop is 100 miles, welp you get a long ride in a tow truck. all tows paid directly by them, no BS reimbursement policy.

The only downside is that I'm not sure if you can choose to go 80 miles home vs. 100 miles to a shop. Someone else wanna verify this? I've never used mine.

I lied, there's another downside, it only works in the USA. I understant it works in Canada and Mexico, but there are some policy changes like payment for the tow or something. Again, clairfication? I don't plan to travel there anytime soon.

I use MRF's (Motorcycle Riders Foundation) roadside assistance program. The service is actually provided by Road America. I haven't had to use it yet... hope I don't. It is very cheap... so I might be getting what I pay for, but I figured I'd try it. Anyway, I posted some details and links about it last year, here on this forum. I've had AAA plus for years...have used it on everything including our bluebird bus motorhome. I have yet to use it for the bike..so this is a good question and one I need to talk to them about. Not everyplace is prepared to deal with bikes.

Literally just changed from State Farm to Progressive. Reason, for $5 more a year I got Roadside, $2000 in custom parts coverage, $10,000 more uninsured liability and a policy stating that safety protective gear will be replaced in a collision. Total policy $598 a year. Rick with you in Bama as well, you may want to look at Progressive and add RA rather than $100 per year on JUST RA.

I signed up for Allstate RV Roadhelp plan which covers just about anything or everything you drive including a motorcycle. And they'll tow you to the nearest service center for the vehicle.

I've got AMA Mo tow when I'm south & CAA Plus up here in the Great White North....the CAA Plus does cover your motorcycle as well as any other vehicle (ie....RV's, trucks, cars, etc) :good: .....

MTS, have not had to use them, but have heard good things+when I signed up they where having a two years for the price of one sale.

I don't have the coverage, one concern I would have is if the towing unit is experienced at motorcycle transport. I read a horror story somewhere about wanting to hang a motorcycle off the hook for transport. Would they have soft ties, and know how to place them? etc. i carry a Canyon Dancer in my bag, so at least they'll stay away from the plastic. If I buy, I think I'd probably go with the MO-TOW, or the MTS, as they are motorcycle related.

When getting coverage with any provider, make sure that it covers the area that you are in or that you will be riding in. Here on Long Island in NY we can't get certain types of coverage....Triple AAA plus included.

Farmers included this in thier coverage but I never used it. I just changed back to Progressive after 3 years since my wife changed jobs and works for a different insurance agency that doesn't use Farmers.

A friend of mine has a plan through AARP. He used it last year when he had a flat tire on I-81 heading south. He had nothing but good things to say about them. Me I use MTS. Never used it (knock on wood) but it's good to know they are there if needed and are geared towards bikes.

I have AAA RV+, but have only used it once to get an old V-Star with an electrical problem up to the shop. My Foremost insurance also comes with road side assistance and towing.

Just talked to AAA about this last week. Also had AAA Plus and was told it does not cover motorcycles. Had to upgrade to AAA RV Plus to get the bike covered. This cost an additional $30/year.

Progressive came through the one time I needed them. Just make sure you break down in a place with cell phone coverage.

Now, I don't know this this for a fact, but I suspect that all these plans are the same. That is, I believe all -- or nearly all -- of these companies are contracting through the same group and reselling the service under their own brand. It just doesn't make business sense for everybody to be setting up their own network.

Maybe someone with closer ties to the insurance world could confirm that suspicion

I haven't read it lately, but I think the Yamaha YES policy will cover towing to a Yammy Dealer and might even cover a motel overnight.
