EOM Flight Plan registration

STARTED ANOTHER THREAD AND REQUESTED IT PINNED, POST THERE IF YOU WISH.

I know there have been times that I have left home on some trip, and called my brother to say "You are the only person in this world who knows where I'm going".

The problem is that I'm never 100% sure that he really gives a crap (brotherly love and all, ).

So that thinking lured me into "Wouldn't it be nice if we could post-up, or register the motorcycle equivalent of a basic flight plan. You know, just where I'm leaving from and what time I expect to be at the Brier Inn. Maybe include the first name only and phone number of somebody to contact in case we don't show.

I'm not comfortable posting such info on the open Internet. You never know nowadays who might be lurking around to come steal my Snapper riding mower just as I leave for EOM. Just thinking out loud and questioning if there is an easy way and enough interest to pursue such a thing???

Not a bad idea; actually a pretty good one. For those who don't mind, we could list folks attending with contact info - even if just a cell phone number.

I'm hoping to have a few folks join Lorie and me on a 2-up ride and I'd be comfortable giving "someone" a copy of the route; departure time; expected return time; and cell phone numbers - at least mine.

I have everyone's emergency contacy #... well, almost everyone's emergency #'s within the registration info... but that's only useful if someone crashes and burns.

My mommy knows where I'm going that weekend & that's good enough for me... so, I'm not participating.

This is a good idea.

I was lucky that my phone somewhat worked after the crash (for a bit). I was unlucky in that I call very few people by their real name or relationship title. They ended up calling my father-in-law. He only lives about 350 miles away from where I was lying. He did, however, call my wife.

And don't count on being able to remember numbers. I couldn't. I knew who I was. I knew who my wife was. But for the life of me, I could not remember any phone numbers.

In your cell phone, put a listing for "ICE", which is for "In Case of Emergency". This would be the phone number you want called In Case of Emergency.

The ICE (In Case of Emergency) program was conceived by paramedic Bob Brotchie in May 2005. The idea behind the program is to enable first responders (paramedics, firefighters, police officers) to identify people and contact their next of kin to obtain important medical information. People are encouraged to enter in their emergency contact person(s) in their mobile phone book in the following format ICE1-mum, ICE2-dad, ICE3 etc. The popularity of the program has spread across Europe, and has started to grow into North America.

The "ICE" thing is a good idea. I have asked a couple guys that I know who are paramedics and they do look for that.

When I call my wife's phone it comes up ICE Husband. Which is a little weird but whatever??

I think my primary concern is the typical time period it takes for someone to "come up missing". Very, very few of us actually manage to call home and say "Hi Dear, I'm at the hotel" within a few minutes of arrival. Instead, there is typically a delay of several hours or even a day or so before our ICE contact receives that phone call.

Just seems that there might be people who would benefit from someone at least questioning why they have not arrived as planned within an hour or two of scheduled arrival. I used the term flight plan because that's the exact model of the idea.

And just so you know, if I was to learn that anyone attending EOM was extremely overdue, I'd personally be making some phone calls and attempting to retrace your route. It's what we do for one another, right?

My brother would miss me if I had not called in two or three weeks. In my specific case, I don't want my daughters being the ones questioned about my whereabouts. I have enough people riding with or meeting along the way to EOM for it not to be much of an issue this time. Just thinking that having some mechanism in place at group events might be worthy of some effort.
