It is time to get BeamerReamer & Mrs. back on the road in a big way. :yahoo: :clapping: :yahoo:

They put together the idea of doing a trip to Alaska and northern BC this summer sometime while they were recouperating from the injuries last summer. For those that didn't see the report from last summer's forest rat strike and swimming, you can read about it here. Deer report

During the Winter, Beamer shared with some of us that they wanted to go to Alaska on their new FJR. Then they asked if any one else wanted to go. We had not decided where we were going to go one our 10 day ride this year. In March, we said yes to their offer. It will be fun and new territory for us to explore.

They asked us about riding 2up and towing a trailer with the motorcycle. What it was like to camp using the trailer. We talked, long story made short, it was time to plan.

Criteria for the route was to hit as many of the highest ranked Destination Highways roads as we could along the way. Beamer did most of the route planning as he has been through lots of BC before. We settled on a 400 mile per day average day with one day in the middle somewhere that we can use to see the sites in more detail. We are heading North on May 26th and returning June 5th.

Next thing to decide was when is the best time to go. Beamer consulted the historic weather trends for the area and end of May into June seemed to be the best.

Next thing they had to get a trailer to tow their gear. His Bushtec trailer arrived May 8th. It came with teh wrong hitch which they are sending out next early next week to him so he can install and be ready. The maintenance is up to date on both bikes, new PR2's installed. Camping gear all packed.

I am sure Beamer will come along and add to this. The route is just over 4000 miles with some of the best roads BC and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Please feel free to suggest sites and roads that are a must see.

Wow! Props to BeemerReamer and the Mrs.

After a crash like they had some people would just hang it up but when it's in your blood to ride - go for it.

Should make one hell of a great ride report. Lots o' pics please.

I had a trip to Hyder scheduled for May 25th-30th, but I don't have my bike ready. Work has just been a pain in the ass. I'm painting the wheels now, otherwise I would be good to go. I would have crossed your path on the way up. :)

You guys have a great time.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! I wish I could go with ya. A couple days ago over at Rich's while getting a new seat, I met a couple from Kamloops who are riding their BMW to the SW USA, then all the way to the east coast and back up thru Canada. Making me all sorts of crazy to do some long distance touring. Have fun y'all!

You're all in for a great adventure Bryan. This is a good link to monitor Weather, Road Construction, Highway Cams etc. if you haven't already found it.

Looks like you'll be passing through Hudson's Hope, the land of Dinosaurs and Dams. If you get a chance, visit WAC Bennett Dam just minutes out of HH. W.A.C. Bennett Dam is at the head of the Peace River Canyon. Completed in 1967, it is one of the world's largest earthfill structures, stretching 2 km (1.25 miles) across the head of the canyon and measuring 183 m (600 feet) in height. Behind the dam is British Columbia's largest reservoir, Williston Lake, which covers an area of 166,000 h (410,000 acres)

TAKE THE TOUR at the Dam... You'll be glad you did!

Have a great time..... :clapping:

Keep Going!

Well...we had hoped to do some version of this trip last year but it didn't work out. And we had really hoped to get deep into the "real" Alaska but that is just not logistically possible over 10 days without shipping the bike up and doing a one-way trip. And for those inquiring minds, it costs around $900 to ship a bike from Seattle to Anchorage which includes crating, uncrating, insurance, etc.

The other thing with a trip like this is that you just have to pick a date and do it. Tough to wait for a consensus amongst a group that still have job responsibilities and a life of their own to tend. So Colleen and I picked a date and committed to the trip regardless of riding companions. We would have had a great time on our own and the adventure would have definitely seemed a bit more daunting. But alas, one brave couple decided they could tolerate being in our company that long. Even better that they brought skills to the table and we could learn a lot from their experience of pulling a trailer and packing for an extended camping trip. And Bryan is no slouch in helping get the bikes ready for a trip.

As Bryan alluded to in his original post, we used the idea of this trip as a carrot to get past some health obstacles. Consequently the planning for this trip began many many months ago so that the time spent working on the details would serve as motivation. We actually bought the FJR, seats, Zumo, Starcomm, etc. long before we were ambulatory and did the installation of said items as ability allowed. All that to say, we are pretty damn excited to get this little party rolling and departure is now 5 days a way.

I can tell you one unassailable fact: Colleen and I are going to feel like total asses if we whack a deer again. How would you like explaining that to the Moms?

Looking like an outstanding adventure, with good company, have a safe trip and am looking forward to hearing about it.

Looks like an interesting route. Remember, those Canukian "forest rat's"

are twice as big and a lot more ugly than ours, I think they call them "Moose"

Looking forward to lot's of photo's and descriptive trip report. Oh and the

Bugsssss! Have fun. :yahoo:
