I run higher psi due to it feels firmer in tight twisty curves in Western NC mountain roads. Started off at 32 but just too soft. I also run FJR ES on hard +3, 1 person + bags to increase the firmness. I am a little too short and knees not good enough for one leg stops to run it at 2 person...
I'm currently using RIKEN RAPTOR ZR A/S SL 205/50ZR-17, $85 with tax from tire rack. Only have 6,000 miles on it since beginning of August which includes 4,700 miles trip from WNC to Utah. Currently running 34psi to 35psi. 32 psi was too soft for WNC back roads. Previous tire I used last...
Had a NC700x from 11/2012 to 2/2019, 49,000 miles. Traded it in for Versys-X 300. NC700x is jack for all trades, master of MPG. The the best at anything except tanks storage which I loved and MPG. After I got a FJR, I use it just as dual sport which was ok but 17" front cast wheels and...
You could always use your wife's tire warmer. She may have a different name for it like a hair dryer. Been using it for past 3 years. Shove it inside the tire well for about 15 mins on low. Hot air circles around the tire and makes it nice a warm to mount.
I ended up buying a Versys-x 300 abs and it is perfect for the local gravel roads and does good on pavement. Ridden wash creek and yellow gap and cathy's creek FS 475 & 475b many times this year once they opened up.
Went out to Wilson Creek area south/west of Blowing Rock yesterday and was the...
Different tools for different jobs. Trying taking each out for 100 mile ride at speeds above 50mph and you will like the FJR again. Take each out to a small gravel road or stay below 25mph for 30 mins and you will hate the FJR.
I only 31,000 miles out of the original chain and sprockets. Did run a chain oilier since about 1,200 miles. Moved the chain oilier to my Versys-X 300 when I traded in the NC700x at 49,000 miles. Wonder if the chain and sprockets will last just as long
Went round trip cross country on a NC700x. When I got back, front sprocket had 8 out of 16 teeth left. Was missing every other one. The following year bought a FJR to make the round trip. Much easier with CC and more power.
