FJR 1300 vs Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200

I was able to flat foot both bikes.  With the Tiger I wore Sidi Adventure boots which have a fairly thick sole.  With the FJR I wore Sidi Vortice Corsa with their fairly thin soles.   Both bikes are a bit tall.  My inseam is only 29”.  Both bikes look sharp when you remove the bags    I never...

FJR 1300 vs Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200

I owned a 2015 Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorer.  I also owned several Gen II FJR AEs.   I liked both, but seriously, they are apples and oranges.   The FJR is heavier but has better storage.   The current FJRs are full featured, including optional electronically adjustable suspension.   The...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

An easy approach is to use an open pan to hold the meat. Let it sit in the smoker for the first 2 to four hours. Then wrap the pan with Aluminum foil, and move it to the oven indoors. I set the oven on 210 F and walk away. 5 hours? 10 hours? Who cares? The brisket does not. I check it...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

I do not consider myself to be good at smoking pork ribs. It is one of my disappointments. I think I've mastered brisket, shoulder, chicken and duck, prime rib, etc. The other disappointment (besides pork ribs) is turkey. Those two food items are beyond my skill set. I could make it a...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Its awful hard to get the collagen to give it up below 180 F. At 180 F most beef will be fork pullable after the interior temp has been at 180 for 10+ hours, but sometimes it can take 20. Smoking ribs isnt about dissolving collagen though. Brisket is. FWIW, Im with Fred on the 135 idea...

    Earplugs: just me?

Ive ridden with the same friend for 51 years. Ive always worn the yellow scrunch and stuff EAR variety. I buy them in 200 pack industrial boxes. He has always hated ear plugs of any kind, and wouldnt even try most. My hearings still pretty good in spite of the genetic tendency toward hearing...

How old is too old (for jackets, helmets)?

Put em on eBay, or offer them on consignment through www.motorcyclegear.com. Ive never had any trouble selling jackets, pants, or boots. I wont sell helmets though. They get their straps cut and a trip to the dumpster.

    Gas pump freebie!

If its just trickling, I doubt you pumped two more liters. Did it set on 18.00 the whole time? If it moved to 18.0x, you probably got, and paid for, .0x extra liters. Modern pumps are pretty much bulletproof against favoring the consumer.

My dad was killed in a motorcycle accident 07/29

Congratulations on the decision years ago to abandon debt, and for accomplishing this goal. I agree with Dave Ramsey ... being debt free really puts you in a great position for the future. The loss of a parent is never completely out of mind, but when there are good memories, the nostalgia for...

    Argentina GP

He should have been DQd, but Expletivedeleta is in bed with PUig. Marquezs only real friend out there is Lorenzo, but Lorenzo is a non-issue these days. Contracts will be negotiated soon. Lorenzo will be humiliated.

Would Like Advice on MOTO GP at COTA

Rossi was on the third step at Losail, but he was less than a second behind Dovizioso on the top step. In the 22 lap race, thats less than .04 seconds per lap. Rossi may not win as much, but by the time others whove still raced at his age were at his age, they were riding sweep, hoping for a...

Would Like Advice on MOTO GP at COTA

Ive not been to COTA, but at other MotoGP venues, Ive got some general habits. I think its interesting to go all three days. The first two days you can wander around, watch what you want, and generally learn about rider styles and bikes up close. Sunday I want to be plopped down in my seat...

    Hourly rates at dealer

When I started as a mechanic in a Honda shop, I made $2.25 an hour and the labor rate charged was $6/hr. Over the course of several years the mechanics pay increased to $5/hr and the labor rate increased to $12/hr. I left the business in 1973. My first job as a real engineer in 1974 paid me...

    Hourly rates at dealer

I dont think hourly charges matter. What matters is whether or not they actually did the work right. The bottom line might matter a bit, but I gladly pay whatever they ask if Im confident of the quality of the technician.
