I started fueling my BMW F800S with E20 or E30 at the blender pumps because in the rural areas I ride the 89 octane it requires wasn't available. Octane goes up about 2 for every 10% of ethanol added to the blend, so E20 was 89 octane and met the octane spec. That bike with the same exact engine...
Quite an improvement- looks like there was only two mechanical DNFs, of course one was a BMW final drive. Some pretty heroic mechanical repairs and lotsa tires and rims destroyed by road shrapnel though!
The IBR pretty much confirmed BMW's final drive problems, it's a unique million mile reliability test that ignores a brand's carefully cultivated "quality" image.
I suspect the bingo card explains a lot of rider's choices- On leg 2 a lot of riders chose to grab the giant ear of corn bonus in Olivia, MN that was only 768 points, must have been on a doable line that yielded a juicy bonus for completion. On leg 3 the giant Loo T Fisk fish in Madison, MN...
Didn't see much on FB either. Perhaps what's happening is the internet age phenomena where while the number of people interested in something shrinks, the intensity of the shrinking groups involvement increases?
You're right- Looking at the "similar threads" the number of postings and views has declined with every IBR, and declined much faster than motorcycle sales. Has the discussion moved to social media, is the IBR getting stealthier, or are people losing interest in LDR?
MSP metro was probably a traffic nightmare with that show, Taylor Swift, and Pride this weekend- Good to see almost all the riders out of Minnesota by now. There's been a bunch running down US 81, restaurant at the junction with US 18 serves "Chislic", a South Dakota "delicacy". Whole line of...
Lotta activity in Minnesota- Several on US212 which goes by the 20+ foot tall ear of corn, on Cedar Avenue in south Minneapolis (lotsa restaurants), and Snelling in St.Paul (state fair).
Wasn't it about a decade ago when they had the mass disqualification of riders who got outside assistance via the internet? Perhaps that lesson has been forgotten...
The storm damage would have been known at the start yesterday, so I suspect if the Tulsa site wasn't available they would have made other arrangements before the start.
Will keep an eye out for it in southwest Minnesota, your tasteful mods make it easier to spot. Is that a West Bank Motorcycle Club sticker on the back?
